dc.description.abstract | Aim: There may be a number of factors affecting success in medical education which require high study performance. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of gender, inter-university transfer, and foreign nationality on the success of the students at Duzce University Medical Faculty. Material and Methods: A total of 365 students in 2014-2015 academic year and 400 students in 2015-2016 academic years which are being trained in the first three classes at Duzce University Medical Faculty were examined. The number of students studied on an individual basis is 505, which of them 217 are male and 288 are female. Results: The general rate of successfully exceed the upper classes at the end of the term was found significantly higher in female students (95.0%) than male students (86.5%). The success rate (74.2%) was lower in the students who were transferred inter-university, compared to the students who settled to Duzce University Medical Faculty (92.2%) in first class. For the foreign students, this difference increased and the success rate was 39.5%. Conclusion: It was seen that female students were more successful than male students, the success rate of students transferred inter-university was lower contrary to expectations, and the success rate of foreign students was seriously lower in the first three years at the Duzce University Faculty of Medicine where the overall success rate was at a fairly good level. It was determined that, these are the risk factors negatively affected the success of the medical education at a serious level for foreign students, a middle level for inter-university transfer, and a low level for males, investigated in this study. © 2017, Duzce University Medical School.
