Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the attitudes of school students in Duzce Province who are located in different grades towards refugee students. Methodologically, this uses mixed research methods - survey and interviews, and controls for different variables. The findings of the study reveal there is a significant difference between the attitudes of the participants towards refugee students according to gender, the presence of refugee students in their class, type of school, education level of parents. There was no significant difference according to family income levels. In the study, interviews were conducted with the students in order to examine the variables that showed a significant difference between the students' attitude scores. According to these results, it is suggested that empathy and a values-oriented curriculum should be included in schools in order to improve the attitude towards refugee students. In addition, it is recommended to develop the language skills of refugee students and to include group activities in teaching.
