Özet

This study, which aims to understand school principals’ ability to use emotional intelligence in case of conflict, from their own point of view, was carried out in the phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group consists of school principals working at primary, secondary and high school levels, who were determined according to the criterion sampling technique, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods, and who underwent an investigation at least once due to a conflict. Semi-structured interview questions were used to collect the data. The analysis of the data was done by content analysis method. According to the results school principals are aware of their feelings in case of conflict, they patiently try to balance emotional situations such as anger, tension, anxiety, stress, they are calm, accommodating, have a positive perspective based on understanding and persuasion towards conflict and resolution. They tried to keep their reactions under control by using methods such as positive thinking, self-indoctrination, and occasionally interrupting communication; It has been determined that while they empathize, they also self-evaluate themselves, trust their knowledge, experience and feelings, and therefore exhibit an approach that focuses on solution. © 2022, Milli Egitim.
