Our purpose was to determine the levels of cervical disc herniations and their relationship with intramedullary high signal intensity in magnetic resonance images of patients with clinical diagnosis of disc herniation. Four hundred forty-five patients with the clinical diagnosis of disc herniation were included. Disc herniations were mostly detected in 40 to 49 and 50 to 59 age groups. The most commonly involved intervertebral disc level was C5-C6. The patients with 4 levels disc herniations were mostly seen in 50 to 59 age group. Disc compression was observed in 90 patients and mostly seen in 50 to 59 age group. Intramedullary high signal intensity was detected in 22 patients and they were all type 1. In conclusion, pathologies related to disc degeneration can be observed in patients with neck pain as age increases even without any neurologic deficits. Therefore, a detailed analysis of all data for each patient is crucial in making the decision of any surgical intervention.en_US
