Öğe Carbohydrate polymers protecting metals in aggressive environment(Elsevier, 2021) Rizvi MarziyaThe biopolymers and polysaccharides which are naturally present or are a product of some biochemical process are abundant in nature. With proper planning and management, they are nontoxic as well as a renewable natural source of incredibly interesting compounds. Using carbohydrate polymers is not a novel phenomenon for the industries; they have already been employed as binders, coatings, drug carriers, and most interestingly as corrosion inhibitors in various media. Innumerable researches have been carried out and reviewed in the past two decades on their use. The researchers are still publishing many articles on these ecological substances being employed to tackle the ever increasing problem of corrosion. The questions arise as to what makes these incredible substances so sought-after as corrosion inhibitors, what is the mode of their action, and how efficient they are? This chapter describes the application of carbohydrate biopolymers and their more efficient derivatives for the inhibition of corrosion of metals. The modes and mechanisms of how they fit in a corrosion reaction to protect the metal would also be described. Their efficiency which is directly related to their macromolecular weights, chemical structures, and their interesting molecular and electronic orientations would be discussed. To judge their inhibition efficiency and mode of functionality their structures and compositions can be analyzed by simple gravimetric analysis or much more powerful analytical electrochemical and theoretical tools can paint a better picture of the mechanism of actions involved in such a corrosion inhibition, as discussed in this chapter. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. Sweet corrosion in the presence of CO2 gas is a mild form of corrosion and sour corrosion is an extremely severe type of corrosion that occurs in the presence of H2S gas. Corrosion of metallic structures has been recognized as an important problem in oilfields in the presence of these gases. The topics in this chapter will be limited to the factors causing sweet and sour corrosion as well as the corrosion inhibitor-based mitigation techniques. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. The need for accurate measurement techniques specific to nonstationary conditions has long been recognized, and promising approaches have emerged. This chapter introduces dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as a novel advancement in electrochemistry that can be used efficiently in galvanostatic and potentiostatic modes. The review focuses first on an explanation of the method and second on presenting a comprehensive corpus covering available studies that have applied dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for the purpose of preventing corrosion phenomena. This chapter defines the merits of this novel approach compared with the conventional electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method. © 2021 American Chemical Society. Electrochemical reactions accompanied by changes in both the metal and the environment in contact with the metal are known as corrosion. Although corrosion has a common mechanism on a microscopic level, various microstructures, designs, and compositions will undergo different types of corrosion. Experimental methods for the estimation of kinetic, thermodynamic, and mechanistic aspects of metal corrosion are described in this chapter. Special emphasis is paid to electrochemical experimentation to determine the relative stability of materials, annual loss of material, inhibition efficiency, and the effects of environmental conditions, preferably in situ, in vitro, and in vivo. © 2021 American Chemical Society. It has widely found importance in fields like electronics, automotive, healthcare, aerospace, biomedical and have considerable ability for numerous advanced technological industrial applications. Advancement in this technology ensured better, lighter faster and smaller products and systems. Many computational models, various synthesis methods and advanced characterization techniques and theories to elucidate experimental results are being devised by researchers. This chapter introduces the development of various synthesis strategies to functionalization a wide range of nanomaterials. Also the characteristics of various polymer nanocomposites considering some specific applications were worth mentioning. © 2022 American Chemical SocietyÖğe Natural polymers as corrosion inhibitors(wiley, 2021) Rizvi MarziyaCan something as natural as a plant exudate prevent a piece of iron from rusting? In the previous years, to achieve highly efficient corrosion protection of industrial equipment and common metallic objects, synthetic compounds were used as corrosion inhibitors. This practice is prevalent even up to this date. Polymers were previously used as inhibitors too, but their source or derivation or way of synthesis made them "not the substances without adverse effects." Some very responsible researchers in the past decades took up the initiative to implore alternate sources that are toxic neither to the man nor to the environment. Erstwhile, natural polymers were seldom considered as corrosion inhibitors. In this chapter, we would discuss the natural polymers of floral, faunal, and microbial origin, and their unique composition that has lead the researchers worldwide to use them as corrosion inhibitors. To perceive their application in a better light, the environment and the testing techniques used to evaluate them would also be discussed. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.Öğe An overview of corrosion(wiley, 2021) Rizvi MarziyaLet us summarize the very basics and get an overview about the process that would be discussed mainly in this chapter and then throughout the book, i.e. corrosion. Corrosion is synonymous to degradation but to tackle and control it we must know all the types of corrosion that may lead to industrial failure and the environment, which may promote or suppress them. Then we would discuss about the exact methods to control this degradation, which is almost found everywhere be it in the industries or in our daily lives. It is of prime importance to study what corrosion may lead us to and how can we prevent this damage from occurring. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
