Özet
Can something as natural as a plant exudate prevent a piece of iron from rusting? In the previous years, to achieve highly efficient corrosion protection of industrial equipment and common metallic objects, synthetic compounds were used as corrosion inhibitors. This practice is prevalent even up to this date. Polymers were previously used as inhibitors too, but their source or derivation or way of synthesis made them "not the substances without adverse effects." Some very responsible researchers in the past decades took up the initiative to implore alternate sources that are toxic neither to the man nor to the environment. Erstwhile, natural polymers were seldom considered as corrosion inhibitors. In this chapter, we would discuss the natural polymers of floral, faunal, and microbial origin, and their unique composition that has lead the researchers worldwide to use them as corrosion inhibitors. To perceive their application in a better light, the environment and the testing techniques used to evaluate them would also be discussed. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
