Özet

This study aims to analyse the effects of selected R&D indicators on economic growth and to examine what needs to be done for T & uuml;rkiye to enter the top ten global economic powers. The relationship between R&D indicators and economic growth was analysed using the Vector Autoregression (VAR) Model based on data from T & uuml;rkiye between 1990 and 2023. The study is expected to contribute to the literature on this subject with its selected R&D indicators dataset, sample structure, and methodology. Our results indicate that R&D expenditures, the number of university faculty members, and the number of patents positively affect long-term economic growth. Furthermore, according to the Vector Error Correction (VECM) analysis, R&D expenditures and the number of university staff also have positive and significant short-term impacts on economic growth. For T & uuml;rkiye to increase its competitiveness in the global world and enter the top ten economic powers, the total R&D expenditures/GDP ratio should be increased to at least 3.2%, full-time researcher staff in universities should be increased, and commercialisation mechanisms for R&D products should be developed at both financial and institutional levels to systematise the contribution of R&D outputs to economic growth.
