dc.description.abstract | Proverbs; which are the reflections of subconscious of a society are concise sayings as main ideas of a culture. The fundamental functions of proverbs are to transfer culture to next generations and so to make culture to be produced by renewing itself. In cultural transferring, a life period with a child as a being and a childhood concept that comprises the characteristics of this period are important. A child is a target in which culture is produced again and childhood is a life period in which this production happens. One part of proverbs; which have an important place in cultural transferring, has got child themes. An examination on how Turkish proverbs dealt with these concepts can explore cultural point of view about child and childhood. The main aim of the study is to find out Turkish proverbs with child and childhood concepts and to explore how these concepts take place in Turkish proverbs. Within the scope of the study, firstly the most comprehensive two dictionaries are examined and proverbs with child theme are found out. Then, the word frequency of these proverbs is determined and the most frequent 100 words are given in the finding part with its word frequency data. At the next step, how child and childhood concepts are mentioned in these proverbs is analyzed by dividing them into sub-categories. In the study, 785 proverbs with child theme are faund, the vocabulary that constructs proverbs is rich and child is appreciated as valuable as a being, on the other hand the period and some characteristics of childhood are not favorable in these proverbs. | en_US |
