This study aims to compare the state and trait anxiety levels of secondary school students playing volleyball and to determine the relationship between some variables and the state and trait anxiety levels of secondary school students playing volleyball. In order to achieve the aim of the study, 360 students playing in their school teams in 19 secondary schools located in the center and districts of Duzce province and participating in interscholastic competitions were included in the study. Scanning model was used in this study. In the study, the personal information form prepared by the researcher to determine the demographic characteristics of secondary school students and the "State Anxiety Scale" and the "Trait Anxiety Scale" developed by Spielberger et al in 1964 were used as data collection tools. In order to determine the distribution of the data, the normality test (Kolmogorov Smirnov test) was performed, thereby it was determined that the data was not distributed normally and nonparametric tests were applied. Frequency and percentage for the analysis of the data, the Mann-Whitney U for the comparison of paired groups, the Kruskal-Wallis Test for the comparison of groups more than two, and Spearman correlation analysis for the determination of the relationship between state and trait anxiety were used. The significance level in the study was determined as 0.05. When the findings of the study were examined, in terms of the state anxiety scale of the secondary school students participating in the study, there was a significant difference were found in the variables of gender, school attended, education level of the mother, education level of the father, family income, parental status, family and region of residence (p<0.05), while significant differences were found in the variables of gender, school they went to, whether any family member doing sports in the family or not, and playing volleyball under license in terms of the trait anxiety scale (p<0.05). In addition, it is seen that there is a positive and significant relationship between state and trait anxiety scale scores (p<0.01).
