dc.description.abstractAn efficient and optimum economic operation of electric power generation systems has always played an important role in the operation of the electric power industry. Low fuel cost and reliable operation of power systems is desired the available electricity generation resources to supply the load demand on the power system. Economic dispatch problem is one of the nonlinear optimization problems of electrical power systems. This study presents a new heuristic approach to solve the well-known power system economic dispatch problem using Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA). In order to test the effectiveness of proposed approach it was applied to different test systems. To show that effectiveness of proposed algorithm the results obtained are compared to those reported in the literature. The simulation results demonstrate that this proposed approach is a very useful and efficient approach to solve economic dispatch problem. © 2011 Chamber of Turkish Electric.en_US
