Özet
In our country, which has been shaken many times by the devastating effects of severe earthquakes, studies in the field of Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) systems are continuing in order to ensure the safety of people during earthquakes and prevent loss of life by taking advantage of both the knowledge accumulated over decades and the current state of technology. In this article, taking into consideration the fact that our country is also prone to earthquakes, a comprehensive literature source is aimed to be created for future studies in this field. In this study, the development of earthquake early warning systems from different perspectives has been examined by compiling the most cited articles of leading scientists in countries that have conducted the most research on EEW systems worldwide. In order to fill the gap in the literature and achieve successful results in field studies, important studies on EEW systems worldwide should be examined, methods should be researched, updated if necessary, and collaborative studies should be conducted with other countries working in this field. It is seen that examining the development of EEW systems from past to present can illuminate scientists working in this field. The commonly used method of warning people before an earthquake based on the first detection of ‘’P’’ (primary) waves, making all calculations quickly according to the magnitude of the earthquake before the shaking ‘’S’’ (secondary) waves reach the cities, has developed. However, despite this basic similarity, there are significant differences in details according to the earthquake characteristics and scientific history of countries. This article not only emphasizes the similarities, but also compares the differences in approaches and algorithms in countries where EEW systems have developed or are developing at an academic level. It is thought that with the advancement of artificial intelligence technologies in the near future, systems that will minimize human and material losses worldwide will be developed and disseminated through faster detection and communication networks. © 2025, Ankara University.
