Özet
Bu araştırmada öğrencilerin okuma becerileri olarak hız, doğruluk ve anlama başarılarının ekran ve kâğıt okuma ortamları açısından karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Betimsel tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmanın araştırma grubunu beşinci sınıflara devam eden 88 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında öğrencilerin bir dakikada doğru okudukları kelime sayısı ve yüzdesi ile anlama testleri kullanılmıştır. Okuma hızı ve doğru okuma puanlarına yönelik veri toplama sürecinde video kameradan yararlanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde t-testi ve Mann Whitney-U testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre öğrencilerin okuma hızı, doğru okuma ve anlama puanları ekran ve kâğıttan okuma durumuna göre anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaşmıştır. Bu farklılaşma kâğıttan okuma lehine gerçekleşmiştir. Araştırma sonucuna göre öğrencilerin kâğıttan okumada hız, doğruluk ve anlama yönünden ekrandan okumaya göre daha başarılı olduğu söylenebilir.
The present study aims to compare and contrast students reading skills, speed, accuracy and comprehension in terms of the reading environments of screen and paper. The sample of the study which was conducted in descriptive survey model comprised 88 fifth grade students. In data collection, the number and percentage of words read accurately in a minute, calculated and comprehension tests were employed. During the process of data collection on reading speed and accuracy, the video camera was also utilized. In the analysis of data, t-test and Mann-Whitney U tests were adopted. The results revealed that students reading rate, reading accuracy and comprehension scores differed significantly in terms of reading from the screen or paper, with higher scores in reading from the paper. Thus, it could be argued that students speed, accuracy and comprehension in reading from the paper is much more successful than that of the screen.
