Classification and Evaluation of Short-Stories by Sait Faik in Terms of Environmental Problems in the Context of Obstacles to Sustainability

Özet
The origins of our environmental behavior almost extends to the history of mankind. Environmental problems are considerably associated with people's thought and behavior patterns. Within this context, literature benefits from life in addition to enriching its various aspects. Within this framework, Sait Faik's stories can be said to constitute an important resource for the nature / environmental changes and the problems resulting from them. Sait Faik likes nature as a whole in his stories. The love he feels for nature sometimes openly reveals and he sometimes shows his love for it angrily because of its being polluted. As a sample of this research, Sait Faik's stories have been chosen as he mentions how the nature is being destroyed resulting from people's irresponsible behaviour in his books firstly and his stories form a rich resource for it. In this research, qualitative research method has been preferred. 148 stories taking place in Sait Faik's story books while he is alive and 43 stories taking place in a published story book were analyzed with content analysis without making any distinctions among their types. Irresponsible environment behaviours have been mentioned by Sait Faik in 33 ones (17%) of 191 stories taking place in 9 story books. It has been determined that Sait Faik mentions his love for nature more directly and he sometimes mentions the damages of nature destructions and pollution indirectly. Within this context, Sait Faik can be said that his stories are quite functional about his being a nature friendly writer.
