Öğe An ecological based approach for determining suitable landfill : The case of Kilis/Turkey(Triveni Enterprises, 2020) Coban, A.; Demiroglu, D.; Karadag, A. A.Aim: The present study aimed to develop a ecologically based approach to determine appropriate locations for landfill sites. Methodology: This study was conducted in Kilis, where the population is increasing and under risk due to wrong area management. This study consists of the processes of determining-evaluating the criteria of selecting sites and mapping these criteria with holistic approach. In the process of determining the criteria, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is one of the multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods and in the mapping process, Geographical Information System (GIS) technology was used. In the study, the main criteria for selecting areas for landfill sites were determined to be aspect, proximity to settlements, proximity to seasonal and dry streams, proximity to main roads, land capability classes, rock type and soil water permeability. Suitable landfill sites related to the study area were mapped based on these criteria. Results and Interpretation: As a result, the map of suitable landfill sites produced in this study is an important ecological guide andits necessity for spatial planning should be ensured.Öğe Evaluating the contributions of internship to landscape architecture education(Triveni Enterprises, 2020) Karadag, A. A.; Demiroglu, D.; Sezen, I; Birisci, T.Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the contribution of internship on landscape architecture education in Turkey. Methodology: A questionnaire study on plantation and office internship was undertaken on 4th year students following the completion of their internship training. In all 411 questionnaire forms were filled in a semi structured interview/questionnaire. The descriptive statistics in the SPSS 22 program was used for the evaluation. Results : The findings revealed that internship is considered necessary in terms of education and working life of a landscape architect. The findings have shown that internship duration was insufficient, its scope/number was inadequate, the placementof place was problematic, and its program was unclear, the process was uncontrolled and the evaluation was ineffective. Interpretation: In order to increase the contribution of the internship to the landscape architecture education, proposals such as increasing the internship period, development of internship scope/number,establishment of internship place database, supervising internship process, creation of internship training program and effective internship exams have been proposed.Öğe EVALUATION OF LAND USE/LAND COVER CHANGE (LULCC) AND METEOROLOGICAL DATA IN TERMS OF SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE IN KILIS, TURKEY(Scibulcom Ltd, 2020) Karakus, C. B.; Demiroglu, D.; Karadag, A. A.Land use/land cover change (LULCC) is one of the important factor responsible for climate change because these changes affect water and energy processes in ecosystems. Climate change is an important threat especially for agricultural areas. Climate change also threatens food security through food supply, accessibility to food, and effective use of food, posing a risk of rising food prices. This study was conducted in Kilis city centre and its surroundings. The province has a high agricultural potential. The aim of the study is to evaluate together with the land change tendency and the temperature and precipitation trend (for 1985-2001-2019) of the study area and to develop suggestions for the sustainability of the agricultural areas. The research findings showed that, between 1985-2019, settlement areas developed towards bare areas and agricultural lands. In addition the trend analysis results demonstrated that temperature increased and precipitation decreased. As a result, correct field usage is very important in reducing the impact of global warming. In this context, ecology-based land use decisions need to be developed.Öğe IMPORTANCE OF SUITABLE AGRICULTURAL LAND USE IN COMBATING GLOBAL WARMING: THE CASE OF DUZCE, TURKEY(Scibulcom Ltd, 2020) Karadag, A. A.; Kaya, M. Yilmaz; Basaran, N.Wrong land use is one of the major causes of climate change. Agricultural land is one of the areas where the wrong land use decisions are made most. In this study, an ecology-based method has been developed to determine and mapping suitable agricultural land use. The study was conducted in Duzce city. In the study, GIS-based multi-criterion decision making method was used to determine suitable agriculture lands. In this process, first of all, criteria for determining the agriculturally suitable areas were determined and scored; these scores processed into the database of the relevant maps; finally, the maps were subjected to overlay analysis and a suitable agricultural area map was obtained. In this study, 11 criteria were evaluated in terms of agricultural suitability. Results show that 28% of the area have very high agricultural suitability, 6% is high, 18% is medium, 45% is low, and 3% has very low suitability. In addition, when suitable agricultural land map is evaluated, it is seen that urbanisation is spreading in areas suitable for agriculture. In addition, agricultural areas spread to areas with low agricultural value. This contributes to climate change. The way to reduce this contribution is to carry out agricultural activities in appropriate areas.
