Investigation of Form Feature in Urban Road Trees within the Context of Aesthetic Perception; Case of Kocaeli- Başiskele- Alsancak Avenue

Özet
Urban ecosystems show significant differences when compared to natural ecosystems. The most important reason for this is the anthropogenic effect. These differences are; dense construction, industrial facilities, dense population, heat island, urban activities, air pollution, soil conditions, etc. factors can be listed. On the other hand, green areas in cities are the only places where people are together with nature and benefit from its functions. One of the places where trees, which are the most important elements of green areas, is the closest and most beneficial to people, is road routes. Road trees constitute an important part of the green areas in the city. Road trees are natural elements that need attention in their planning and design, as they are always intertwined with the people living in the city. Functionally and aesthetically correctly planted urban roads have an important place in the urban landscape as the continuation of the green areas of the city and the green passages connecting them, as complementary elements to the organic integrity. Urban road trees are the trees that are most negatively affected by the environment in terms of their location. Therefore, they require more attention and sensitivity than other afforestation studies. In addition to the functional properties of road trees such as improving the urban climate, bringing human scale to the city, and psychological features; it is known that visual features also contribute. This study tries to determine how people perceive the aesthetic features of road trees in terms of form in the example of Kocaeli- Başiskele- Alsancak Street and its close surroundings. In this context, trees; it has been discussed in three main form features as circle, pyramid and scattered. These form features were also evaluated over the user group in line with six different adjective pairs. The results of the research reveal that especially the circular road trees are positively differentiated in terms of human perception. © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.
