| dc.description.abstract | Purpose: This study investigated the effects of practical blood flow restriction (pBFR) training applied to the upper extremities on core endurance and hypertrophy in young males engaged in regular fitness training. Methods: Twenty male participants aged 18-27 years were randomly assigned to a pBFR group (n=10) or a control group (n=10). Both groups followed the same high-intensity resistance training program for eight weeks, while the pBFR group additionally performed pBFR exercises three times per week. Core endurance was assessed using extensor endurance, side plank, and flexor endurance tests, and hypertrophy was evaluated by arm circumference measurements. Results: In the pBFR group, significant within-group improvements were observed in extensor endurance (p=0.001), side plank (p=0.001), flexor endurance (p=0.001), and arm circumference (p=0.001). In the control group, a significant improvement was observed only in arm circumference (p=0.001). Post-intervention comparisons demonstrated significantly greater extensor endurance in the pBFR group compared with the control group (p=0.050), whereas no significant between-group differences were found for side plank (p=0.510), flexor endurance (p=0.720), or arm circumference (p=0.320). Conclusion: pBFR training was associated with significant within-group improvements in core endurance and hypertrophy in young males engaged in fitness training. However, these improvements did not consistently translate into statistically significant between-group differences when compared with conventional high-intensity resistance trainingalone. pBFR may represent a feasible and cost-effective adjunct to resistance training programs, particularly in situations where high mechanical loads are undesirable. Further studies with larger sample sizes and longer intervention durations are warranted. | |
