Edirne is an important historical and cultural urban center since it has been the home of several civilizations throughout history. Edirne is a border town with cultural diversity. Furthermore, the Maritsa, Tunca and Arda rivers that divide the city are also significant natural landscape elements. These rivers are international waters and have been important factors in urban structure and serve as a natural corridor around the urban center. In recent years, the city has experienced problems such as population growth, urbanization, tourism, increase in impervious surfaces, damage to natural corridors, and urban or rural floods. Thus, planning and management of these areas are quite important to ensure sustainability. The present study aims to determine the landscape sensitivity in Edirne Sarayiçi region that includes various natural, historical and cultural assets. Thus, landscape function analyzes (water function, habitat, erosion function and cultural status) were conducted and the landscape sensitivity was determined by ovarlay the maps. The condition of the river habitats was analyzed with field work in and around the Tunca river. The analysis of the Sarayiçi region landscapes revealed that the landscape sensitivity was low; however, the presence of historical and cultural assets in the area and frequent floods damaged the river habitats and increased landscape sensitivity. Thus, recommendations for the restoration and conservation of the landscape are presented to preserve natural and cultural components and ensure the sustainability of historical assets © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.en_US
