Özet
Tourism is an economic, social, cultural, environmental, and psychological event that occurs as a result of people’s travels outside the places where they live. In this context, tourism is generally defined as multifaceted since it requires economic, social, cultural, and environmental inputs. Hence, the effects of tourism are discussed under the headings of social, cultural, economic, and environmental. Therefore, tourism is not only an economic event but also has social, political, environmental, cultural, and social psychological effects. When the studies on the effects of tourism in the literature are examined, it is seen that most of the studies conducted until 1980 focused on the positive economic effects of tourism, while the studies conducted after 1980 began to focus on the environmental, social, cultural and social-psychological effects of tourism. However, the number of studies focusing on tourism’s psychological and social-psychological effects is limited. In this chapter, the economic, social, cultural, environmental, and social-psychological effects of tourism will be examined positively and negatively. © 2022 Dogan Gursoy and Sedat Çelik.
