Abstract
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between psychological resilience, alexithymia, depression, anxiety and impulsivity in patients who attempted suicide with medication, and also to examine the relationship between psychological resilience and alexithymia with other scales. Materials and Method: The patient group who attempted suicide with medication (n=66) and the control group (n=66) without any psychiatric diagnosis were studied. Sociodemographic data form, Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11) were used in the study. Results: BDI, BAI, TAS-1, TAS-2 BIS-11 were found to be significantly higher in the group who attempted suicide with medication compared to the control group (p<0,001). PRS commitment and challenge were significantly higher in the control group (respectively, p=0,039 and p=0,003). When comparing the correlation coefficients of PRS with other scales between the groups, a difference was found between PRS and BDI, BAI, TAS-1 and BIS-11 unplanned impulsivity in the group who attempted suicide with medication (respectively, p<0,001, p=0,033, p=0,006 and p<0,001). In the comparison of the correlation coefficients of TAS-20 and other scales between the groups, a difference was found between BDI, BAI, BIS-11 in the group who attempted suicide with medication (p<0,001) Conclusion: Patients who attempted suicide with medication were found to have low psychological resilience, higher levels of alexithymia, more depressive and anxious, and more impulsive. Keywords: suicide attempt, psychological resilience, alexithymia, depression, anxiety, impulsivity.
