New Turkey Party (YTP), which was founded on February 13, 1961 with the implicit support of the military tutelage regime after the Military Intervention of May 27, 1960, is examined in this study. YTP, which was established to fill the political vacuum left behind by the Democrat Party (DP), made its presence felt in the Turkish political life from 1961 to 1973. Needing the support of the same electorate as the AP (Justice Party), YTP failed to achieve this goal except for the General Elections of October 15, 1961. Later, AP filled this vacuum in the General Elections of October 10, 1965. Nevertheless, YTP succeeded to be a coalition partner in the 2nd Inönü Government between 1961 and 1965 and in the election government formed at the end of this period. YTP Founding Chairperson Ekrem Alican, on the other hand, provided important contributions to Turkey as a deputy prime minister responsible for the economy during the period of transition to a planned economy. It is determined in this study that YTP became a regional party in the period between 1965 and 1969, when Demirel was elected as the leader of the AP and then AP came to power alone. The fact that Alican avoided populist politics contrary to his contemporaries, that the idea of uniting with other parties was constantly discussed within the YTP along with intra-party factions, that Alican served as a minister during the National Unity Committee (MBK) period and his relationship with Cemal Gürsel and the coalition government founded with the CHP was effective in the weakening of the party. In addition to the main writings in book form, periodicals and YTP's bylaws, party program and election manifestos were examined in detail in this study.
