20. yüzyılın başlarında çağdaş uygarlık düzeyine ulaşmak amacıyla gerçekleştirilen Atatürk modernleşmesinde, gerek Cumhuriyet rejiminin kalıcılığının sağlanması ve gerekse kalkınma hamlesinin en kısa sürede gerçekleştirilebilmesi için yetişmiş insan gücünü temin etmek ve bunun için de ihtiyaç duyulan aydın bilim adamlarının yetişmesine imkân sağlamak amacıyla yükseköğretimin modernizasyonuna büyük önem verilmiştir. Atatürkün yükseköğretim modernizasyonu çerçevesinde, Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarından itibaren, Osmanlı Devletinden devralınan yükseköğretim kurumları modern esaslara göre yeniden yapılandırıldığı gibi, Avrupadakilerine benzer bilimsel araştırmaya dayalı modern yükseköğretim kurumları inşa edilmeye başlanmış ve bu uygulamalar ülkemizde modern yükseköğretimin kurulmasına temel teşkil etmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Osmanlı yükseköğretimi kısaca açıklanarak, Atatürk döneminde modern yükseköğretimin kuruluş çalışmaları incelenmiştir.
In the modernization efforts which were initiated by Atatürk at the beginning of the 20 th century in order to reach the contemporary civilisation level, to make the Republican regime permanent and to realize industrialization efforts in a short time, the modernization of higher education was given great importance to provide qualified man power, and to ensure the education of intellectual scientists that would contribute to providing the needed qualified individuals. In the framework of Atatürks higher education modernization, the higher education institutions that were taken over from the Ottoman Empire were restructured in accordance with modern principles, beginning from the early years of the Republic, and modern higher education institutions, based on doing scientific research like those in Europe were started to be built, and these implementations formed the basis for the establishment of modern higher education in our country. In this study, the Ottoman higher education system is briefly explained, and the efforts to establish modern higher education in Atatürks time is examined.
