Öğe Correlation of bicarbonate values measured with direct enzymatic method and blood gas analysis devices(Turkish Biochemistry Society, 2011) Memişoğulları, Ramazan; Özcan, M. Engin; Celbek, G.; Ankaralı, H.; Aydın, Y.Introduction: In this study, we investigated to whether there is a relationship between bicarbonate levels simultaneously measured with the mathematical calculation of blood gas analysis device derived pH and pCO2 and direct enzymatic method. Materials and methods: Arterial blood samples were taken from 90 patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Bicarbonate level was simultaneously measured in the ABL 800 blood gas analyzer with the method of mathematical calculation from the pH and pCO2 and in the Roche Diagnostics Cobas c501 with the enzymatic method. The results were compared. Results: Pearson correlation coefficient between the two measurements was r=0.944 showing a significant positive relationship. Also value of the ICC calculation which was 0.963 showed that there was a significant agreement between the two measurement methods (p=0.0001). None of the 90 values were not out of the agreement limits, as shown in Bland-Altman graphic. Conclusion: The present study showed that bicarbonate measurements with the blood gas analyzers which give quick results are reliable and acceptable when compared with the results of the direct enzymatic method. © TurkJBiochem.com.Öğe GLICLAZID INDUCED THROMBOCYTOPENIA(Editura Acad Romane, 2009) Aydın, Y.; Direktör, N.; Berker, D.; Önder, E.; Güngör, A.; Celbek, G.Background. Drug induced thrombocytopenia is mostly related with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), anticonvulsants, sulfonamides, diuretics, cinchona alkaloid derivatives, penicillamine and gold salts. Oral sulfonylureas such as glibenclamide, chlorpropamide and glimepiride are known to induce thrombocytopenia. Case report. We report a 42 year old female admitted to emergency department with a complaint of hematochesia. She has been using oral gliclazide for three years. Laboratory results revealed bicytopenia: haemoglobin=8.9 g/dL (N=12.3-15.3), white blood count (WBC)=12100/mu L (N=4400-11300). platelet count=4000/mu L (N=150000-450000). All examinations to etiology of thrombocytopenia were negative including, autoimmune, infectious (viral-bacterial) and haematological diseases. Colonoscopic examination showed 50% construction of the lumen ill the first 15 cm segment of the colon by all ulcerovegetant mass. Pathological examination was reported as adenocarcinoma. Thrombocyte levels increased oil the 4(th) day after stopping gliclazid treatment. Conclusions. It is the first case of gliclazid induced thrombocytopenia in literature. So we recommended that platelet count should be regularly checked ill all patients receiving sulfontylurea drugs including gliclazid.Öğe Thrombocytopenia due to intravenous immunglobulin therapy in a patient with Guillain Barre syndrome: Case report(2013) Kutlucan, Ali; Erdoğan, Murat; Dikici, Süber; Aydın, Yusuf; Coşkun, H.; Celbek, G.; Ercan, NurtenThrombocytopenia is a common disease and diagnosis is based on the findings in a variety of reasons. One of the major and reversible cause of thrombocytopenia is drug-induced thrombocytopenia. We herein report a Guillain-Barre case developed thrombocytopenia after intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) administration. A 36-year-old female patient, who diagnosed as Guillain Barre and had an idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura attack 18 month ago, treated 5 day course of 30 g/day dose of IVIG. Initial thrombocyte level of the patient was 193×103/?L, but its level was observed on further days after IVIG administration as 62.8×103/?L and 5.74×103/?L, respectively. Platelet counts did not respond to the pulse methylprednisolone so cyclosporine therapy was applied. Patient's platelet counts became to normal ranges after cyclosporine treatment.
