Abstract
The effect of molding densities and times on weight change after molding and the bead fusion was investigated in the production of expandable polystyrene (EPS) foam. In experimental studies, polystyrene samples were produced using 26,20, 30,70 ve 39,07 kg/mmolding densities and 20, 30 and 40 sec molding times according to ASTM D638 standard. Natural aging of these samples were carried out at room temperature for 30 days. Experimental results showed that 99% of losses of EPS foam sample weight in the natural aging process was performed approximately with 24 hours, and was completed with 30 days. The weight change after molding was decreased with increasing molding density and time. It was determined that the fusion degree in polystyrene foam sample was decreased with increasing the weight change after molding under 1.1 atm pressure.
