Churg-Strauss Syndrome Presenting with Acute Polyneuropathy
(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2011) Oruç, Serdar; Sezer, Murat; Yaman, Mehmet; Demirbaş, Hayri
Churg-Strauss Syndrome is a rare, systemic necrotizing vasculitis that involves middle and smallsized vessels. Lung, skin and nervous system involvements are common. Our patient applied toour clinic with acute loss of power starting from her legs and spreading through her arms. Herelectromyographic examination revealed widespread, mixed type polyneuropathy with axonaldomination. She has a history of asthma and hemorrhagic purpura on her legs, so we suspectedChurg-Strauss Syndrome. Her skin biopsy and blood test results were consistent with ChurgStrauss Syndrome so we dedicated the polyneuropathy to this syndrome and started 1 mg/kg ofmethylprednisolone treatment. She responded well to the treatment. Vasculitic diseases such asChurg-Strauss Syndrome should be kept in mind in the etiology of acute polyneuropathy
