Öğe An assessment on size and site selection of emergency assembly points and temporary shelter areas in Duzce(Springer, 2021) Senik, Berfin; Uzun, OsmanOpen green spaces contribute to urban/rural life in terms of ecological, recreational, spatial, economic, etc., functions as well as prevention of natural disasters, mitigation of its impacts, and providing spatial support to people before, during and after a disaster, especially an earthquake. Therefore, during and after the earthquake, there is need of planning of sufficient and safely (suitable site selection) open green spaces, which will provide emergency assembling and temporary and/or long-term shelter of the public, which can be accessed at certain distances, as emergency assembly points and temporary shelter areas (multiple uses). In this study, the suitable size, accessibility standards and site selection criteria, which are discussed separately in the literature, were determined in a way to coincide with the natural and cultural landscape characteristics of Duzce city center. According to these standards and criteria, some determinations have been made in the study area. Firstly, the situation of emergency assembly points and temporary shelter areas in Duzce city, which has two earthquake experiences (in 1999), has been determined with field survey and the data of 1/1000 scaled Implementary Development Plan, which is planned in 2010 and is revised in 2017, and transferred to Geographical Information Systems. Secondly, in the suitability analysis, the criteria that increase/decrease the risk in the neighborhoods were integrated with the data at the first stage and very suitable, suitable and unsuitable areas were determined. Lastly, the size (m(2)per capita) and accessibility (service radius) of the emergency assembly points and temporary shelter areas determined by the Governorship of Duzce Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate have been evaluated according to the relevant standards. It has been determined that there are deficiencies in the site selection and size of the emergency assembly points and temporary shelter areas in the city and in this context the mapping of the neighborhoods where the size of the area is insufficient and areas where cannot access emergency assembly points and temporary shelter areas in the whole city has been realized. As a result, some suggestions have been presented in Duzce city center regarding the planning of open green spaces and integration of standards and strategies for natural disasters (earthquake).Öğe Determination of the cultural landscape values of Lake Sugla in Turkey(Wfl Publ, 2012) Erduran, Füsun; Uzun, Osman; Çetinkaya, Gülay; Dilek, Figen; Açıksöz, SebahatCultural landscape is a set of values consisting of all the formations, activities, local traditions and customs shaped in due to course as a result of the mutual interaction of the human and the environment. The aim of this study was to determine the cultural landscape values of Lake Sugla (Konya, Turkey) and its surrounding areas, which are rich in cultural values, and to develop a future management approach. In the study, in order to determine the cultural characteristics of the area, a method based on inventory work and the quantification of the data was used. In the study, in view of the assessment of the information forms applied to 34 settlements and expert opinions during the field studies, cultural values (trifle area were determined by twelve criteria. All the settlements were examined in terms of each criterion and given points. As a result of this assessment, Akcapinar, Ahirli, Baliklava, Ciftlikkoy and Kurucay in the study area were determined as the areas that have the highest cultural function. In conclusion, it was proved that stating the cultural landscape elements by quantificating them in terms of certain criteria can he an important source of data in the planning studies that will be done particularly at a sub-regional scale or on districts and village groups.Öğe DEVELOPMENT OF SECTOR-BASED ECOLOGICAL LANDSCAPE GUIDES WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF EUROPEAN LANDSCAPE CONVENTION. THE CASE OF SUGLA LAKE IN TURKEY(Scibulcom Ltd, 2016) Uzun, Osman; Çiftçioğlu, Gülay Çetinkaya; Nemutlu, Füsun Erduran; İlke, E. Figen; Açıksöz, SebahatAccording to the European Landscape Convention, each contracting country, ratified the ELC, is responsible for integrating its landscape protection, planning and management strategies into other sectoral plans such as urbanisation, agriculture and forestry. Purpose of this study is to develop sector-based (agriculture, forestry and urbanisation) ecological landscape guides by evaluating natural and cultural landscape components of the region of Sugla lake located in Turkey. Major objectives of the study include: determination of natural and cultural landscape characteristics and analysis of the functions (e.g. erosion process, infiltration, habitat and biodiversity). A range of dataset (e.g. geological and coordination of information on the environment land cover maps and questionnaire) was used to conduct the study. Method of the study consists of three stages: inventory, analysis and assessment. Major natural (e.g. flora and habitat distribution) and cultural (e.g. historical important areas and cultural heritage) landscape components of the region were identified and mapped in the first stage. Natural (erosion process, infiltration and biodiversity) and cultural (e.g. cultural heritage) landscape functions, which form the basis of the sector-based ecological landscape guides, were analysed and mapped by adapting a landscape ecology-based approach in the second stage. The ecological landscape guides for forest, agriculture and settlement sectors were determined by overlapping the delineated maps (e.g. erosion risk, infiltration and habitat) in the final section. We hope that the sector-based ecological landscape guides can be an effective tool particularly in the management of natural resources embedded in each sector by policy makers.Öğe Distribution and conservation significance of endemic plants in the Düzce province(2011) Aksoy, Necmi; Uzun, OsmanWhen considering the conservation status of endemic plants, their traits must be taken in land use systems, since endemics population ranges and sizes, and durability of natural habitats. In this paper, we present the global assessment of the conservation status of the endemic plants from the Düzce province, by applying IUCN criteria and categories, together with the distribution patterns of these species according to land using and its threatened. Also, we focused on which endemic species is distributed and where the populations are more spread and threatened in planning by plotting them in land use maps of Düzce province. The recent studies of flora in Düzce province shows richness in endemic species by a local and regional flora researches which biological diversity is reflected on land use map. The endemic plant lists of Düzce, which were obtained in field studies conducted between 2003 and 2009 in Düzce province, were plotted on the maps produced by employing geographic information systems (GIS). Distribution in land use of determining endemic species, which were specified as critical, endangered and vulnerable endemic species among them, were shown on the land use maps. Eventually, the natural habitats for these species were specified as usage areas with land use and landscape management planning by planning them into conservation management. © 2011 Academic Journals.Öğe Düzce Asarsuyu havzasında peyzaj değişimi(2007) Dilek, Figen Emine; Uzun, OsmanBu araştırma, Düzce Asarsuyu havzasındaki peyzaj değişiminin ortaya konulması ve havzanın doğal kaynak yönetimine ilişkin bazı önerilerin getirilmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. The assessment of land suitability is a critical step in land use planning, but it may have some shortcomings and may fail to represent the diversity of ES-related features of geographical places. To address this issue, this paper proposes a method that integrates the ES approach with contemporary land suitability evaluation. The study consists of three steps: (1) Land suitability analysis: represents the geology, morphology, land capability, hydrology, erosion and habitat vulnerability, (2) Integrated ES mapping: represents the integrated value of provisioning, regulating and cultural ES potential together and (3) Land suitability evaluation based on integrated ES mapping (ES-Integrated Suitability Map): represents ES-based land suitability. The results demonstrate that there is a significant difference between the conventional and ES-integrated land suitability evaluations. According to the results of the conventional land suitability analysis, while 29.8% of land has excellent and 23.6% good suitability conditions for new development, the ES-integrated land suitability evaluation reveals that only 0.18% and 5.35% of land has excellent and good suitability for new development, respectively, in Duzce. This study shows that the introduction of the ES approach can have an important contribution to spatial decision-making. In addition, this method provides an approach to represent the place-based attributes of space better through the integration of ES into land suitability and can thus help to make environmental concerns a priority in spatial decision-making.Öğe Ecosystem services-based multi-criteria assessment for ecologically sensitive watershed management(Springer, 2020) Tezer, Azime; Turkay, Zeynep; Uzun, Osman; Terzi, Fatih; Koylu, Pinar; Karacor, Elif; Kaya, MelekThe decline in ecosystem services (ES) across the world is mostly associated with land use change, which is the basic outcome of ecosystem degradation. The changes associated with land use development often negatively impact ecosystems to sustain their services. The lack of capability of contemporary land suitability (overlay) analysis on ES-based decision support approach necessitates a new way of analytical method integrating ES to promote sustainability more efficiently in spatial decision making and ecosystem management. Although there is a growing attention on ES-based data improvement and spatialization of ES data through mapping and valuation at local and global levels, the configuration of analytical decision support tool of ES has not been developed yet to be used for spatial decision-making purposes. In this paper, a case study for the application of ES-based decision support approach is presented to contribute as a spatial decision support tool. Duzce, a province distinguished with being another major drinking water supplier of Istanbul, is selected as a case. The aim of the paper is to explore the relevancy of ES-based land suitability (ESLS) assessment approach as a decision support tool in spatial decision making by comparing with the contemporary land suitability (overlay) analysis. Both approaches have been developed and superimposed with multilayered/multi-functional spatial assessments to achieve an integrated final output separately. The findings of the research prove that ES-based analytical approach for spatial decision making can better formulate and contribute to more holistic and comprehensive spatial decision making.Öğe Ekosistem Hizmetleri ve Mekânsal Planlama İlişkisinin Peyzaj Planlama Çerçevesinde Değerlendirilmesi(2019) Kaya, Melek Yılmaz; Uzun, OsmanEkosistem yaklaşımı, doğanın korunmasını ve sürdürülebilir kullanımını teşvik etmekte, doğal kaynakların vekültürel çeşitliliğe sahip insanların ekosistemlerin ayrılmaz bir parçası olduğunu kabul etmektedir. With the use of landscape ecology based approaches in landscape planning process, from the point of structure, function and changes of the landscapes, planning decisions can be taken more easily and scientifically. Within this concept, it is important to examine the function of habitat and bio-diversity of the landscape in order to state the function of landscape in landscape planning. The purpose of this study is to state the habitat and bio-diversity function of landscape within the scope of landscape planning in Lake Sugla and its surrounding area and to develop planning decisions in terms of protection-utilization. The habitat and bio-diversity function of the landscape has been formed by using the patch corridor matrix model and field researches in geographical information system (GIS) environment. While habitat function is evaluated according to the measure and number of patch, the shape of patch, the side of patch and patch classifications in terms of core areas, species diversity is taken into consideration in bio-diversity function. As a result of the study in which data entry analysis and evaluation and geographic information system are used, it has been stated that the mixed patch class consisting of coniferous and leafy plants, is pointed as very high habitat function areas, leafy plants patch class is pointed as high habitat function areas, mixed coniferous patch class consisting of various coniferous plants is pointed as medium habitat function areas and single coniferous patch class is pointed as low habitat function areas. The bio-diversity function has been pointed with the use of books and articles and field studies that have been carried out at different times. The areas that have high habitat and bio-diversity function show parallelism with each other. Moreover, evaluation of both functions has shed light on the forest patches that should be given priority to be protected. The methodology approach which is the first landscape planning study that is based on landscape functions in our country, has been in use both in various regions of our country and various regions of different countries.Öğe Impacts of land use/land cover and climate change on landscape sensitivity in Tunca River sub-basin: Use in spatial planning and sectoral decision processes(Academic Press Ltd- Elsevier Science Ltd, 2024) Ozgenc, Emine Keles; Uzun, OsmanManaging landscape change is increasingly challenging due to rapid anthropogenic shifts. A delicate balance must be struck between the environment and change to ensure landscapes can withstand these impacts. This study conducted in the Tunca River sub-basin of Edirne province, aims to assess landscape sensitivity by examining the influence of land use/land cover (LULC) and climate change on landscape function processes. For this purpose, a methodology was developed based on ecosystem services to determine landscape sensitivity. The results revealed a LULC transformation that could lead to a 60% reduction in forest areas and a 5% and 20% increase in urban and irrigated agricultural areas, respectively. Water and erosion emerged as the most affected landscape function processes. Future scenarios from 2050 to 2070 indicate noteworthy changes in landscape sensitivity, showing an increase in sensitivity in the upper regions of the basin. The study identified high sensitivity in forested areas, moderate sensitivity in agricultural zones, and low sensitivity in micro-basins near residential areas. Protection and improvement strategies are recommended for areas with high and moderate sensitivity, while use-oriented strategies are suggested for those with low sensitivity. This study also establishes a scientific foundation for guiding the protection and management of ecologically sensitive basin areas, offering insights into the effects of landscape change processes at the micro-basin level in connection with climate change models.Öğe Kentsel Açık ve Yeşil Alan Planlaması ve Katılımcılık Görüşlerini Birlikte Kullanan Uluslararası Çalışmaların Bibliyometrik Analizi(2024) Kaya, Eda; Uzun, OsmanKentsel açık yeşil alanlar, özellikle pandeminin ardından daha fazla önem kazanmıştır. First, natural process (disturbance), human activity (disturbance) and habitat patches have been determined as criterias of the definitive space in landscape planning and this criterias, has been analysed in terms of "landscape fragility". Analysis have been conducted in ecological units that have been determined by six criteria (climate, dominant soil groups, aspect, land capacity, land cover, geology). Then, by using the data and the results of the analysis, "landscape management model" have been formed and some suggestions have been made for the research area. By using ecological units in planning, problems have been determined in the smallest homogen units and suggestions have been made. By using tables, that have been formed during the implementation phase, planning decisions have been transferred to the case study area. By the introduction of landscape ecology in planning, the traditional ecological planning approach that has been institutionalized by Overlay model, has been changed. Being a human centered ecological planning model, this approach focuses on landscape suitability for human uses. Introduction of idea and concepts related to landscape ecology has initiated a shift towards some values in planning; such as, environmental ethics, sustainability, ecological fit, ecological integrity and diversity, ecological aesthetics and maintenance of functional landscapes. As a conclucion, it has been proved that, the results of the analysis that have been obtained by landscape fragility, can be used in various planning and management disciplines, including natural resource management (forestry ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, etc.), landscape planning and urban and regional planning.Öğe Landscape change in Duzce Asarsuyu Basin area(Foundation Environmental Protection & Research-Fepr, 2007) Dilek, Figen Emine; Uzun, OsmanIn this study, landscape change of the Asarsuyu Basin is determined some suggestions is proposed about natural resource management. It is emphasized that more actually and more contemporary supplication for the studies of decision making and planning with some results acquired from remote sensing (RS) and using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in areas that contain different human and natural disturbances like Duzce. Rectification and classification of RS image at 1990 and 2000 years are maked by Erdas Imagine 8.7, datas about area are processed by Arcview 3.2. and landscape change and reasons with field exercises are interpreted. Landuse change in Asarsuyu Basin, situated in Duzce Province (northeastern part of Turkey), was determined according to five different type of the classification as (1) conifers (from 1030,95 ha to 450,27 ha); (2) deciduous (from 8477,37 ha to 7929,09 ha); (3) agricultural and flora (from 3492,36 ha to 2601,18 ha) that all were found to have a decreasing trend in terms of size; (4) building and hard surfaces built by civilization activities (from 1479,24 ha to 2504,16 ha); and (5) nuts (Corylus sp) (from 818,55 ha to 1978,65 ha) were determined to have an increased tendency. Tendency of Landscape change were determined from forestry and agricultural areas to building and hard surfaces built by civilization activities and nuts in Asarsuyu basin. GIS unit in local government should be improved with "sustainable resource management" principle, it should been support unit for obtaining plan decisions. Landscape change should be monitored specific times. In monitoring it should be done some research about determination of landscape structure and functions with technology RS and GIS.Öğe Linkages among ecotourism, landscape and natural resource management, and livelihood diversification in the region of Sugla Lake, Turkey(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2016) Açıksöz, Sebahat; Çiftçioğlu, Gülay Çetinkaya; Uzun, Osman; Nemutlu, Füsun Erduran; İlke, E. Dünya Sağlık Örgütü, Sağlıklı Kentler ve Türkiye’deki durumuna ilişkin irdelemeler yapılarak, Bursa kenti ve sağlıklı kentler kapsamında yapılan bazı projelerin incelenmesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonuçta Sağlıklı Kentler birliğine üye belediyelerinin, sağlıklı kentler birliği açısından bazı sorun/faydaları ortaya konularak bazı öneriler getirilmiştir.Öğe A METHOD APPROACH FOR IDENTIFYING THEMATIC FOOTPATHS IN ECOTOURISM: KIYIKOY PABUCDERE AND KAZANDERE BASINS(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2016) Kiper, Tuğba; Uzun, Osman; Topal, Tuğba ÜstünIn this study; new tracks were created, alternative to the existing walking routes within Kiyikoy Region, with the foresight of "Tourism routes are both an important element of economic growth and a natural and cultural heritage value". This process was carried out by analysing natural and cultural values ecologically, with a participatory approach. The research area, located in the Thrace region of Turkey; facilitates the emergence of different tourist routes and corridors with its historical and cultural identity, natural values, local capabilities, history and product focused route traces (Sultan Road, Dionysus Wine Road), and natural identity. The working area is recommended as ecotourism centre in the upper scale planning decisions with its potential. In this study, it was aimed to create ecotourism development corridors, which are passing through the rural areas, forest roads, historical route traces, cultural axes and agricultural axes, by connecting the natural and cultural resources integrally within thematic routes, instead of point-scale ecotourism planning. For this reason the area was divided into micro watersheds, determined by the natural watershed boundaries. Each micro-watershed was evaluated according to six basic factors, including; natural landscape attractiveness, accessibility, tourist infrastructure facilities, tourist superstructure facilities, socio-cultural landscape attractiveness and the impact of visitors on ecotourism resources and their perspectives. The ecotourism value of each micro watershed was determined in line with ecological examination. 11 different designated thematic routes, which are distinguished with their natural, cultural and historical source values, were created for nature walking in the aforementioned area. As a result, it is ensured to create a strong tourism route and destination regarding ecotourism, and to develop proposals for a sustainable rural improvement of the weak areas of the region. The created lines where ecotourism routes are identified will provide a fundamental base for decision-makers and practitioners in the fields of tourism and rural development. Besides, the method developed can be used on different areas and in different countries.Öğe Process analysis in landscape planning, the example of Sakarya/Kocaali, Turkey(Academic Journals, 2011) Uzun, Osman; Gültekin, PınarLandscape planning which is one of the fields of study that creates a balance between natural sciences and engineering sciences in the best possible way is also important for natural resource management. One of the main purposes is a balanced planning of people and nature, instead of people oriented planning. In landscape planning, the approaches in which landscape functions are analyzed and the structure and change of landscape is presented have been supported by ecology and landscape ecology sciences. Water, erosion and habitat function of landscape has been presented in the research by the help of Geographical Information System (GIS). The research area is Kocaali District that is situated on Western Black Sea basin. A landscape planning approach demand that is to function as a pre-study for the next planning studies from Kocaali Municipality is the strongest reason for choosing that area. As a result of water, erosion and habitat function analyses, it has been stated that the beach in the north of the area should definitely be conserved; the forested land in the southwest of the area has high conservation value and the hazelnut-groves that can be seen in many parts of the area needs a medium conservation. In conclusion, research findings and water, erosion and habitat function analyses about landscape can be used in the planning decisions related to agriculture, forestry, settlement, etc. separately. Additionally, evaluation of the all landscape functions all together will make important contributions to the planners in sub-region and region scale.Öğe A process approach to the open green space system planning(Springer Japan Kk, 2022) Senik, Berfin; Uzun, OsmanOpen green spaces have significant contributions to the city, urban residents and ecosystem. However, these contributions could not be fully reflected on the urban space due to rapid urbanization. Furthermore, studies on this reflection have focused only on a specific function of open green spaces without a holistic approach. Also, there is no common framework for the definition, classification and standardization of open green spaces or a comprehensive analysis of these domains. The present study aimed to propose a guideline that included five criteria to serve as a baseline to plan open green space systems. In the study, open green spaces and the city were considered as a subsystem of the landscape. Thus, open green space objectives and strategies were proposed based on the landscape functions, urban character and urbanization level (urban density). Furthermore, the study reconsidered the definition and classification of open green spaces and recommended standards. These standards were categorized in two groups based on recreational standards and natural disasters. Thus, the open green spaces were analyzed based on qualitative, quantitative, connectivity and location selection criteria with a holistic approach and a multi-dimensional framework was developed based on ecological, recreational and disaster criteria.
