Öğe Bioactive contents, In vitro antiradical, antimicrobial and cytotoxic properties of rhubarb (Rheum ribes L.) extracts(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2019) Keser, Serhat; Keser, Fatma; Karatepe, Mustafa; Kaygılı, Ömer; Tekin, Suat; Türkoğlu, İsmail; Sandal, SüleymanRheum ribes L. (rhubarb) is belonging to Polygonaceae, and its roots and fresh shoots are consumed as vegetable in Turkey. This plant is considered to be one of the most important pharmaceutical raw materials in Middle East. In this study, the antiradical, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and bioactive properties of water, ethanol, and methanol extracts of R. ribes stems were determined. R. ribes stems water, ethanol and methanol extracts are better scavenged ABTS•+ (99.27, 99.91, and 99.88%), DPPH• (83.11, 81.42, and 83.26%), and OH• radicals (93.49, 94.21, 95.86%) than standard antioxidant BHA (95.32, 80.49, and 93.78%). Stems of R. ribes abundantly include bioactive compounds, dominated by rutin, catechin, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, ?-tocopherol and vitamin D. These extracts show effective cytotoxic properties against PC-3, A2780, HCT-116 and MCF-7 cancer cell lines at 24h. It is found that R. ribes contain high amount important bioactive contents, and has effective antiradical and cytotoxic properties. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.Öğe In vitro anticancer, antimicrobial and antiradical properties and bioactive compounds of endemic Wiedemannia orientalis Fisch. & Mey. flowers(Niyazi BULUT, 2022) Keser, Serhat; Keser, Fatma; Tekin, Suat; Türkoğlu, İsmail; Kaygılı, Omer; Demir, Ersin; Yılmaz, Prof. Dr. ÖkkeşW. orientalis is a one-year herbaceous plant, located in the Lamiaceae family, and is called Ballıbaba in Turkish. In the presented study, the antimicrobial and anticancer properties of flowers extracts of endemic W. orientalis were investigated for the first time. Also, it was investigated the antiradical activity and phytochemical contents of this plant extracts. According to our study results, endemic W. orientalis flowers extract show very high anticancer activity against MCF-7, HCT-116 and LNCaP cancer cell lines, high antiradical activity against ABTS radicals, and effective antimicrobial activity against some microorganism caused infection in humans. In conclusion, endemic W. orientalis can be used as an anticancer and antimicrobial agent and this plant can be the subject of further studies in the field of herbal medicine.Öğe In vitro Biological Activities and Phytochemical Contents of Portulaca oleracea L. (Purslane)(Niyazi BULUT, 2021) Keser, Fatma; Karatepe, Mustafa; Keser, Serhat; Tekin, Suat; Türkoğlu, İsmail; Kaygili, Omer; Demir, ErsinP. oleracea is an annual herbaceous plant, belonging to the Portulaceae family. This plant is consumed as a vegetable in Turkey, and is grows spontaneously in wetlands, along streams and meadows. In this study, the antiradical, antimicrobial, anticancer activities and phytochemical contents of aerial parts extracts of P. oleracea were investigated. According to study results, P. oleracea aerial part extracts show very high anticancer activity against MCF-7, HCT-116, A2780 and PC-3 cancer cell lines, high antiradical activity against OH radicals, and effective antimicrobial activity against some microorganisms. Also, it was determined that P. oleracea aerial parts contain highly phytochemical compounds. In conclusion, it can be said that the P. oleracea aerial parts can be used for antiradical, antimicrobial, anticancer purposes.Öğe Malva neglecta Wallr. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, M. neglecta toprak üstü kısımlarının yüksek antiradikal, antimikrobiyal, antikanser aktiviteye ve fitokimyasal içeriğe sahip olduğu anlaşılmıştır.Öğe The Effects of Antioxidant Melatonin on Rat Ovary Neonatal Exposure to Bisphenol A(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2018) Aydın, Vildan; Ömeroğlu, Suna; Kartal, Bahar; Coşkun-akçay, Neslihan; Akarca-dizakar, Saadet Özen; Türkoğlu, İsmail; Dernek, DamlaAim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of melatonin on the rat ovary against to neonatal exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA).Material and Methods: In this study, 24 Wistar Albino female newborn rats were divided into four groups (n=6). Rats were injected with (sesame oil + ethanol) and (100 mg/kg) BPA by subcutaneously (sc) between postnatal days (PND0-PND10), in control and BPA groups, respectively. Melatonin group rats were injected daily with (10 mg/kg) melatonin (PND20-PND30) and BPA+melatonin group rats were injected daily with (100 mg/kg) BPA (PND0-PND10) and (10 mg/kg) melatonin (PND20-PND30). Histological and morphometric investigation were performed. Furthermore cell cycle marker Cdc-2 expression was evaluated by using IHC.Results: Histological findings showed that neonatal exposure to BPA results in degenerative alternations in ovary. It was found that there were no statistically significant changes in the body weight gains and in the average weights of ovarian tissue of rats between all groups. However, there was an increase in the average weights of ovarian tissue and body weight gain of rats from BPA administrated group. We also found that immunoreactivity of cdc-2 was lower in BPA group rats compared to others. Conclusion: It was concluded that neonatal exposure to BPA disrupts folliculogenesis that causes degenerative changes in ovarian follicles and melatonin may have positive effects on rat ovary damaged by BPA.
