Öğe EXAMINATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' DIGITAL ADDICTION AND LEVELS OF LONELINESS(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2023) Üzgü, Mehmet Ali; Bozgüney, Reha; Can, Banu; Ozlu, Metin; Akat, Ahmet; Güneş, Furkan; Çalık, FirdevsWith this study; it was aimed to examine the digital addiction and loneliness levels of university students. The research population is university students studying in Turkey, and the sample group is; It consisted of a total of 333 students, 184 males and 149 females, studying at Selçuk University, Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey University, and Necmettin Erbakan University. Personal information form created by the researcher to obtain sociodemographic data, digital addiction scale developed by Kesici and Tunç (2018) to determine digital addiction levels, and in determining the loneliness levels, Russell et al. (1978) and adapted to Turkish culture by Yaparel (1984), the Ucla loneliness scale was used. The variance and homogeneity of the obtained data were tested and for the data determined to be homogeneous; Independent t test was used in pairwise comparisons, One Vay Anowa was used in multiple comparisons and Tukey HSD test was used to determine the source of difference. In the statistical analysis and interpretation of the data, the significance level of p lt;0.05 was taken into account. The Cronbach Alpha value was 0.89 for the Digital Addiction Scale and 0.86 for the Ucla Loneliness Scale. No statistical change was observed between digital addiction and loneliness values depending on the digital tool and internet application usage factor. It was determined that the mean value of women in the sub-dimensions of preventing the flow of life, inability to quit and general sub-dimensions of digital addiction was statistically higher than that of men (p lt;0.05). It was determined that the mean value of the 18-21 age group was statistically higher than the 26 and over age group in the sub-dimensions of preventing the flow of life, leaving it, and general (p lt;0.05). Statistical changes were detected in all dimensions of digital addiction depending on the time allocated to the Internet daily (p lt;0.05). It was determined that the change between the average values of loneliness level depending on the factors of gender, age and time spent on the Internet was not statistically significant. In the light of these findings, it can be said that as the age group increases, the time spent on the Internet decreases, women are more dependent on the digital world than men, this situation is controlled by age-related increase, and the reason for the differentiation between men and women may be due to social roles, status and responsibilities.
