Öğe The acquisition and effectiveness of IDEAL standards in discharge planning and education with simulation method(Bmc, 2025) Kececi, Ayla; Demiray, Ayse; Kiziltepe, Selin Keskin; Ilaslan, Nagihan; Acil, Ayseguel; Erturk, FilizBackground Basically, although all members of the health care team are responsible for the education of the patient and his/her family, discharge planning to provide self-care skills is the responsibility of the nurse. However, unfortunately, the satisfaction of patients with discharge education is not at the desired level. This study aims to examine the improvement of nursing students' discharge education competencies through simulation method aligned with the IDEAL discharge planning model-Include, Discuss, Educate, Assess, and Listen-developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Methods A mixed-method design was used in the study. Nineteen second-year nursing students enrolled in surgical nursing courses during the 2023-2024 academic year participated in a five-session simulation, with each session lasting approximately one hour. General Self-Efficacy Scale and Simulation Design Scale were used to obtain quantitative data, and semi-structured individual in-depth interview form was used to obtain qualitative data. Mean, standard deviation, and paired t-test were used to evaluate quantitative data; descriptive content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data, and participants were selected through purposive sampling based on their involvement in all simulation activities. Results Quantitative results showed an increase in post-test scores across all discharge education sessions (General total pretest = 55.86 +/- 6.59, posttest = 57.63 +/- 6.70). The most significant improvement was observed in the continuation effort and persistence sub-dimension of the General Self-Efficacy Scale during the fourth session (p <.05). Among the Simulation Design Scale components, support sub-dimension received the lowest (X +/- sd = 4.24 +/- 0.56) and fidelity the highest (X +/- sd = 4.58 +/- 0.52) scores. Qualitative findings indicated that as simulation sessions progressed, students reported greater confidence and communication skills; however, challenges remained in applying some IDEAL components, particularly discussing patient goals and involving families in the process. Conclusions As a result, it was determined that the simulation intervention improved the discharge education skills of nursing students and increased their self-confidence. Incorporating the IDEAL framework can foster more patient-centered care by emphasizing the inclusion of patients and their families in the discharge planning process. By supporting patients' understanding of post-discharge instructions, this approach can promote greater adherence to treatment plans and contribute to improved long-term health outcomes.Öğe Effectiveness of the Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation method in emergencies with simulation-based education for nursing and paramedic students(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2025) Erbas, Atiye; Kiziltepe, Selin Keskin; Kilic, UmitIntroduction: Effective handover skills play a crucial role in communication between pre-hospital and hospital staff. However, nursing and paramedic students rarely have the opportunity to practice them. Objective: Our study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Situation-Background-AssessmentRecommendation (SBAR) method in emergency settings using simulation-based education for nursing and paramedic students. Methods: We conducted a single-group quasi-experimental study involving 39 nursing and 42 paramedic students. The students' patient handover skills were evaluated through simulation-based training using a structured handover method. Data were collected using the Personal Data Form, Patient Handover Information Form, Patient Handover Skill Evaluation Form, and Video Observation and Evaluation Form. For data analysis, we used the Mann-Whitney U test, the Friedman test, the Cohen's kappa coefficient, and the Pearson correlation test. Results: The knowledge scores of nursing (N) and paramedic (P) students (N: 16 [11-20]; P: 15 [10-19] pretraining) increased post-training (N: 18 [15-20]; P: 18 [10-21]), post-simulation (N: 18 [14-21]; P: 17 [13-20]), and one-month after the post-simulation (N: 18 [14-21]; P: 17 [14-20]). The group participants, 50%, received scores between 12.50 and 16.25 and acquired medium handover skills. Conclusion: We found that theoretical education and simulation-based applications were effective in enhancing students' knowledge level of handover processes, which are critical for patient safety, and that simulation supported their learning. It is recommended that patient handover training be conducted using simulation-based methods with different student groups, integrated into educational curricula, and updated regularly.Öğe Exploring Moral Distress, Related Factors and Coping in Emergency Nurses: A Mixed Method Study(Wiley, 2025) Kiziltepe, Selin Keskin; Koc, ZelihaAimTo determine emergency nurses with moral distress level, related factors and coping.DesignThis is a mixed-methods study which included quantitative and qualitative approaches.MethodsIn quantitative phase, surveys were completed to 252 emergency nurses, while in the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 23 nurses. Descriptive analysis was used for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data.ResultsThe related factors of moral distress in nurses were as follows; educational status, work experience, satisfaction, and employment status. EN usually uses positive reinterpretation and development to cope with problems and tried to solve moral distress by getting own individual solutions and getting support from colleagues, friends and families due to lack of support from managers. In order to improve healthy working environment and conditions, it is important to create plans and strategies for EDs. It is recommended to develop practical and structural strategies and interventions that effective coping with moral distress by hospital managers.Patient or Public ContributionIt will increase the quality of care provided by nurses and patient satisfaction.Öğe Web-based standardized patient simulation for taking anamnesis: an approach in nursing education during the pandemic(Bmc, 2023) Demiray, Ayse; Ilaslan, Nagihan; Kiziltepe, Selin Keskin; Acil, AysegulBackground To address the challenges in nursing education brought about by the pandemic, this study aimed to evaluate the use of a web-based standardized patient practice in the development of nursing students' anamnesis taking skills and their views about its application.Method We conducted a descriptive intervention study with 39 s-year nursing students. The students completed anamnesis using the standardized patient practice in line with a scenario with real standardized patients in a web-based environment with audio and video. Results The total scores of students' anamnesis skills were low. The agreement between the total scores, scores obtained from the health patterns, and each item in the control list was statistically significant (p < 0.05).Conclusion Web-based standardized patient practice is an alternative for clinical practice facilitating the gaining of competencies in making holistic nursing diagnoses under conditions that limit face-to-face interactions, such as pandemics.
