Öğe Discussion on Cesarean delivery indications of preterm placenta previa and ablatio placenta(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2009) Keskin, NadiAim: In this article, our aim was to discuss and overview our existing knowledge about preterm placenta previa and ablatio placenta cases because third trimester bleeding is an important cause of intrapartum fetal death. Material and Method: Data from classical obstetric books and literature was reviewed and missing data and knowledge were discussed. Results: Placenta previa and ablatio placenta are most common causes of third trimester bleedings. Causes of bleedings in third trimester are 80% ablatio placenta, 10% placenta previa and 10% other causes. Also massive bleeding because of ablatio placenta is the most common cause of intrapartum deaths. In cases with placenta previa and ablatio placenta before 37th week of gestation, massive bleeding and fetal distress are most important indications for cesarean delivery. And unless there is abundant vaginal bleeding or maternal shock or DIC threatening mother’s life, or fetal distress, only bleeding or vaginal clot is not an indication of cesarean delivery. Conclusion: In this article, it was emphasized that in cases with placenta previa and ablatio placenta before 37th gestational week, massive bleeding and fetal distress are most important cesarean indications and unless there is abundant vaginal bleeding or maternal shock or DIC threatening mother’s life, or fetal distress, only bleeding or vaginal clot is not an indication of cesarean delivery
