Electric vehicle charge station layout planning: A case study in Istanbul Technical University campus
(John Wiley & Sons Ltd, 2023) Müyesseroğlu, Arzu; Argun, İrem Düzdar; Kayakutlu, Gülgün
While the popularity of electric vehicles is rising, several studies have been conducted on the challenges surrounding charging stations. The choice of charging station layout planning is evaluated in this study, which is based on available parking capacity and potential vehicle users on campus. Its goal is to figure out how various data and different coverage methods affect optimal selection. These models aim to serve the regions within a specified distance with the least possible number of stations. The data are collected with geographic information system, and the Voronoi diagram is used to solve the models. The findings of the models have been compared, and station sites that were deemed suitable for the campus have been determined. Evaluation of three models allows the most appropriate solution for the campus to set up five stations and use a 700-m service distance. In this study, an opportunity was created to observe how the added parameters affect the optimization model and the results.

Lean energy efficiency: scenario analysis of a refrigerator plant application
(2024) Albayrak, Kazım; Duzdar, Irem; Kayakutlu, Gülgün; Kayalıca, M. Ozgur
Energy concern is increasing in the manufacturing companies implementing the most recent technologies. Energy is a major input for many industries and therefore, within the definition of Industry 4.0 new energy efficiency strategies are defined. Energy flexible processes and waste-to-energy are well-known strategies since they are easily implemented in any manufacturing site. Reduction in energy consumption is also facilitated by the preventive maintenance and renewal of the technologies using energy resources. This study aims to apply a lean production method Value Stream Maps (VSM) on energy consumption levels of the processes to evaluate the decision of technology and/or process change. Processes which use energy excessively when compared with the industry average, will be considered as a bottleneck. Using the value stream maps for energy use is accepted as “Lean Energy Efficiency”. Parameters determined by the preparation of these maps will be enriched by interdependencies determined using the Bayesian Belief Network, which will support finding the priorities among the new efficiency activities. This technique will facilitate the decision of repair or buy through priority scenarios showing the possibility of a decision in each scenario. The combination of the Lean Energy Efficiency Method and the Bayesian Belief Network Method will assist the decision-makers in developing more informed and knowledge-based strategies. The case study is realized in a refrigerator factory handling the energy consumption of different departments. Consequently, these findings could be used as a roadmap for the technology renewal investment decisions made by the firm.

Medical Device Tracking via QR Code and Efficiency Analyze
(Ieee, 2016) Tiryakioğlu, Burak; Kayakutlu, Gülgün; Düzdar, İrem
Anesthetic gases called Desflurane supplied by distributor Company to the hospitals. These anesthetic gases transferred to the patients in a controlled manner via medical devices named Vaporizer (VAP) which are integrated to the anesthesia devices; used especially in operating rooms. Updated hospital VAP inventories are reported to the head office by the sales team on a monthly basis. By tracking the monthly gas consumption of the VAP's, we are calculating the efficiency of devices per hospital. Thus, the performance metrics of the sales team can be evaluated. Which device; belongs to which hospital and under whose responsibility, device manufacturing date etc. can he easily observed at first look. However, missing/false statements have a huge negative impact on inventory, efficiency and performance indicators. The newly established tracking and analysis system, at the base of Clustering Method, comes with Quick Response (QR) Barcode systems which will he scanned via smartphones or tablets. The sales team easily share VAP's; current GPS Coordinates, correct inventory list and device data, responsible person etc. Analyzing and evaluation of inventory, efficiency and performance will be done clearly, trustable and easily. This will he an useful application, for such an integrated system already does not exist.

Renewable Energy Investment Decision Evaluation for Local Authorities
(Springer International Publishing Ag, 2022) Türkoğlu, Ecem; Çolak, Üner; Kayakutlu, Gülgün; Argun, İrem Düzdar
Currently, increasing urban population creates escalating problems such as housing, infrastructure, transportation, health, environment, safety, and energy consumption. Climate change, emission mitigation, and limited energy supply force urban managers to consider sound measures with the support of technological developments. It is based on data collection and accumulation using IoT, sensors, digital networks, and other means. Smart urbanism is a concept that considers predicting, designing, and creating solutions in a systematic, sustainable, and agile manner based on the data collected. Energy is an indispensable dimension in this context. Optimum energy management makes it smart energy with the inclusion clean and sustainable renewable energy resources as well as energy efficiency. This study is performed to analyze possible inclusion of geothermal, solar, and wind power. The analyses are based to reveal the best feasible alternative considering the parameters of location, climate, space availability, capital and operational expenditures as well as construction, operation, and maintenance. The Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fussy AHP) technique is used to evaluate the ranking. The proposed method uses fuzzy mathematics for solving problems containing uncertainties as well as less quantifiable. This study proposes a methodological framework for the analysis of competitiveness of alternative renewable energy generations in urban environments. The municipality of Balikesir is chosen for the case study presented in this work.
