Öğe Does Depression and Anxiety Rises in Pregnancy?(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2018) Kaya Zaman, Ferda; Özkan, Nurşah; Toprak, DilekDOESDEPRESSION AND ANXIETY RISES IN PREGNANCY? ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE:The aim of the study was to compare the levels of depression and anxietyamong pregnant women versus nonpregnant women inreproductive age and to examine its correlation withsocio-demographic characteristics. METHODS:50 women inreproductive age groups and 50 nonpregnant (control group) women between 15-49age group who have applied to the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology andPregnant Policlinic of Gazi Osman Paşa Taksim Training and Research Hospital.The participants who were involved in this study have been applied aquestionnaire for demographic features, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and BeckDepression Inventory (BDI). The results have been statistically analyzed.RESULTS:The pregnant group’s BDI and BAI scores arestatistically higher than nonpregnant group. Furthermore, there isstatistically a meaningful difference in BDI and BDA scores in respect ofpregnancy period in pregnant women (p lt;0,05). According to the results ofcomparision between the groups in order to determine the reason of thedifference; it has been found that while the score of 3rd trimester group ismeaningly higher than the score of 1st trimester group (p:0,017). CONCLUSION:In conclusion, findings show us that whilethe quality of life declines, the level of anxiety and depression increases inthe all trimesters of pregnancy, especially in the third trimester. Depressivesymptoms during pregnancy, especifically the psychological syptoms ofdepression ought to be taken seriously and should be taken as normal symptomsof pregnancy.
