Developing a Xenophobia Scale for Healthcare Workers in Türkiye
(Chiang Mai Univ, Fac Science, 2024) Karagoz, Yalcin; Karasin, Yusuf; Filiz, Mustafa; Genc, Gulsen
T his study proposes a psychometric measurement tool to determine the level of xenophobia among healthcare workers. To this end, 312 healthcare workers serving in Istanbul were reached through convenience sampling and data was generated through face-to-face interviews. A preliminary scale comprising 33 items was initially created. Following expert opinions and pilot study phases, six items were removed from the draft scale, leaving 27 items. Exploratory factor analysis was initially applied to the data, resulting in the removal of nine more items from the scale, thus reducing the number of items to a final scale of 18. The final scale was grouped into three factors: General Xenophobia, Occupational Xenophobia, and Cultural Xenophobia. The items obtained following exploratory factor analysis were subjected to confirmatory factor analysis. The analysis demonstrated that the model obtained fits the data perfectly. The Cronbach's alpha value for the developed scale was found to be 0.905. In conclusion, the developed scale was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for the measurement of xenophobic attitudes among healthcare workers.

The h-index and the problem of measuring academic success: stressing to overcome deficiencies and limitations
(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2023) Firat, Serhat; Ogus Alramazanoglu, Buket; Genc, Guelsen; Karasin, Yusuf; Kurutkan, Mehmet Nurullah
The aim of this study is to determine the deficiencies of the h-index, to produce solutions in this direction and to reveal the limits of the h-index. In this study, document analysis, which is included in secondary data analysis, was used. Except for the H-index, indices used in the scientific world are generally examined in 3 groups. In this direction, a total of 33 indexes were examined by 3 scientists, each index type being compared. The publications and citations of scientists are based on the October 2021 period via Google Scholar. Although the h-index, developed by Hirsch, in which n citations to n publications of a scientist is presented as output, is the most used criterion in the scientific world, it has been determined that there are missing aspects. In the study, it was seen that the scientist with a low h-index may have a higher value in other index types. It has been concluded that the other indexes examined in the study are alternatives to the h-index and that a new type of index should be developed that exceeds all limitations..

Preoccupation with Social Media and Employee Performance
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2025) Sahin, Dilek; Karasin, Yusuf; Stefanidis, Abraham; Banai, Moshe
Social media usage patterns and norms vary significantly across industries and cultures. This study investigates how cognitive preoccupation with social media affects employee performance. More specifically, it focuses on the role the regulatory mechanisms of task-oriented and relationship-oriented uses of social media play in the relationship between cognitive preoccupation and employees' performance in T & uuml;rkiye. Survey questionnaires were administered to 331 healthcare professionals in six private and public hospitals in Istanbul. A significant negative relationship between cognitive preoccupation and employee performance was observed. This relationship was positively moderated by task-oriented and relationship-oriented social media use. The study makes social cognition theory more specific by applying it to the case of social media use while generalizing it to the healthcare industry in T & uuml;rkiye. Moreover, it refines social capital theory by providing insights into mitigating the negative consequences of excessive use of social media on employee performance. The development of a cross-cultural theory of the use of social media would require comparable studies that should be conducted in other industries and cultures.
