Öğe ASSESSMENT OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS WHO HAVE HAD OBESITY SURGERY(İstanbul Aydın Üniversitesi, 2023) Aygin, Dilek; Yılmaz, Ayşe Çelik; Usta, Esra; Doğu, Özlem; Açıl, Hande Cengiz; Karaman, KeremObjective: This study was planned to determine the postoperative quality of life of patients who had received obesity surgery. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted with 151 patients who had obesity surgery at the gastroenterology clinic of SEAH. The data collection instruments consisted of two parts. The first part of the questionnaire form included a Patient Information Form, while the second part included the Quality of Life Following Obesity Surgery Scale (QoL-OS). Results: Among the patients who had obesity surgery, 83.4% were female, the mean age was 38.91±10.58 years, and 69.5% were married. The mean total score of the participants in the Biopsychosocial Dimension of QoL-OS was 71.93±14.25 (min: 31, max: 90). Among the sub-dimensions, the mean scores were 29.10 in the Psychosocial Area sub-dimension, 23.93 in the Physical Function sub-dimension and 18.90 in the Sexual Life sub-dimension. The mean total score in the Complications Dimension of QoL-OS was 18.48±5.164 (min: 7, max: 31). Conclusion: In this study where the quality of life and complications of the patients were assessed in the postoperative period by using the Quality of Life Following Obesity Surgery Scale, it was observed that the quality of life of the patients increased by weight loss.Öğe Development of the Postbariatric Surgery Quality of Life Scale(Mary Ann Liebert, Inc, 2020) Cengiz Acil, Hande; Dogu Kokcu, Ozlem; Usta, Esra; Celik Yilmaz, Ayse; Karaman, Kerem; Aygin, DilekBackground: This study adapted a methodological approach to develop the Postbariatric Surgery Quality of Life Scale (PBSQLS) to determine the postoperative quality of life in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Materials and Methods: The study population (N = 395) was composed of patients who had undergone bariatric surgery between January 2016 and July 2019 in Sakarya Training and Research Hospital in Sakarya, Turkey; and the sample consisted of those who wanted to participate in the study, were aged 18 and older, literate, and had no cognitive and mental health issues. Results: In this study, the varimax rotation process revealed that the PBSQLS had 18 items, three subfactors with similar characteristics, and a total variance loading of 61.358. In addition, the Postbariatric Surgery of Complications Scale (PBSCS) had one single-factor structure, seven items, and a variance loading of 36.213. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found as 0.884 and 0.702 for the PBSQLS and PBSCS, respectively. Conclusion: The PBSQLS and PBSCS developed as a result of this study can be applied in international studies by ensuring its language and society adaptation and will contribute positively to the literature in this field.
