The effect of schizophrenia on family is often distressing and disruptive. Family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia experience high levels of burden and low levels family functioning. Caregivers’ burden in schizophrenia is a complex concept often with negative connotations. This concept is mostly defined in terms of the results and effects on caregivers. In addition to the emotional, psychological, physical and economic impact on caregivers, it also includes sad concepts such as accusation, embarrassment, feelingof guilt and self-blame. In coping with this disorder, patients and their families don’t have adequate information and experience. They have many problems in terms of social, economic and emotional situations; therefore they need assistance, support and cooperation to cope with these problems. Effective management of symptoms, enhancement of patient social functioning, interventions to reduce the anxiety-depression levels of the caregivers, and social support provided by healthcare professionals will help to reduce the burden of family. In order to achieve better treatment outcomes for patients, psychosocial interventions designed for families and psychosocial rehabilitations programs designed for schizophrenia patients are effective means of easing caregivers’ burden. In order to promote mental health of schizophrenia patients along with their caregivers, the mental health workers should strive to find the means of supporting, informing, and cooperating with the family members. In this review, it is aimed to search the relationship between family burden and several variables including sociodemographic features and clinical findings, attitudes of coping with stress, family functions in patients with schizophrenia and their caregivers.Öğe Therapeutic Evaluation of Regional Mental Health Hospitals’ Gardens in Turkey(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2017) Çakıcı, Çiğdem; Var, Mustafa; Hocaoğlu, ÇiçekA scoring table was built according to the three design criteria for way finding, for sensory stimulation, for comfort.
