Sports Injury of Elite Snowboard Athletes Evaluation of their Regions and Species
(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2023) Yılmaz, Emrah; Gezer, Abdullah
The aim of the study is to investigate the sports injuries compared by snowboarders according to injury regions and types.102 elite snowboarders, 40 men and 62 women, participated in this study. The mean age of the athletes was male 23.18±3.13 years, female 22.42±3.93 years; mean height male 178.07±7.78 cm, female 164.82±4.81 cm; mean weight of male 75.07±12.22, female 59.61±10.14 kg. was detected. In the study, a personal information form containing demographic information of snowboarders and Scandinavian Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) were used to evaluate the injuries faced by snowboarders as data collection methods. The survey contains 67 questions, including 15 multiple choice, 46 drop-down menus, and 6 short answers. The questionnaire was created through the Google form and the athletes were filled in on a voluntary basis. In our study, the highest frequency of injury was in the hand-wrist region with 13 women (12.7%), 5 men (4.9%), respectively; 17 women (16.7%), 1 man (1%), with foot-ankle; It was detected in the knee region of 14 female (13.7%) and 3 male (2.9%) snowboarders. When the snowboarders were examined according to gender variables, statistically significant differences were found between the frequencies of waist and foot-ankle injuries from body parts (p>0.05). When the frequency of injury types according to body regions is examined; In total, it was determined that it occurred in the hand-wrist region with 17.7%, in the foot-ankle region with 17.7%, and in the knee region with 16.7%. When the total frequency of injuries is examined, it is seen that the highest rate is muscle pain with 29.5%, other with 29.5%, and without difficulty with 28.5%.As a result, it is seen that the disability areas of the elite athletes dealing with snowboarding are generally in the hand-wrist and lower extremity regions, in the foot-ankle, knee and waist regions. It is seen that these injuries usually occur in the form of strain, muscle pain and other injuries. It has been determined that the probability of encountering snowboard sports injuries of female athletes is higher than that of males. For this reason, it is suggested that female athletes should pay more attention to wrist and lower extremity joint and muscle strength exercises in snowboard training.
