Centaurea yaltirikii sp nov (Asteraceae, C. sect. Pseudoseridia) from Turkey
(Wiley, 2008) Aksoy, Necmi; Duman, Hayri; Efe, Asuman
A new species of Centaurea L. (Asteraeeae) from Turkey is described and illustrated. Centaurea yaltirikii N. Aksoy, H. Duman & A. Efe sp. nov. (C. sect. Pseudoseridia Wagenitz) is restricted to the rocky slopes of Elmacik Dagi (A3: Duzce-Golyaka). It is morphologically most similar to C. drabifolioides Hub.-Mor. and C. cheirolepidoides Wagenitz, but differs in stem, leaves and phyllary appendange characters. The diagnostic morphological characters are discussed. The habitat and conservation status of the species are presented, and the geographical distribution of the new species and other related species is given.

Centaurea yaltirikii subsp dumanii subsp nov (C. sect. Pseudoseridia, Asteraceae) in Marmara region of Turkey
(Wfl Publ, 2010) Aksoy, Necmi; Ataşlar, Ebru; Efe, Asuman; Güneş, Neval
A new subspecies of Centaurea yaltirikii N. Aksoy, H. Duman and A. Efe subsp. dumanii N. Aksoy and A. Efe (C. sect. Pseudoseridia Wagenitz, Asteraceae), is described and illustrated with diagnostic characters and taxonomic comments. The characteristics of the new subspecies are compared with those of the type subspecies from which it differs mainly in the hair of the leaves, stomata types, length and width of the pappus and surface of achene. In addition, the geographic distribution of the new subspecies is mapped.

Response of understory vegetation to exclosure in a heavily compacted forest recreational site
(Triveni Enterprises, 2013) Oral, Dilek; Özcan, Mehmet; Gökbulak, Ferhat; Efe, Asuman; Hızal, Ahmet
Objectives of this study were to investigate effect of exclosure on understory vegetation recovery and determine the time required for understory vegetation recovery in a forest recreational site. Recovery of understory vegetation in an exclosure was monitored for three growing seasons and plant density and vegetation cover were determined for each plant species. Exclosure was compared with control plot for the Shannon index of diversity. Results showed that a total of 33 (18 woody, 15 herbaceous) plant taxa were established in the exclosure while 42 (16 woody, 26 herbaceous) were encountered in the forest plot. Quercus petraea (Mattuschka) Liebi. subsp. iberica (Steven ex Bieb.) Krassiln. had the highest density both in the exclosure (30.37 plants m(-2)) and forest plot (25.75 plants m(-2)) and followed by Hedera helix L. (28.44 plants m(-2) in the exclosure, 23.33 plants m-2 in the forest plot). Plant species recovered in the exclosure did not survive very long as growing season progressed, top soil dried, and canopy closure increased. H. helix L. was the major dominant plant species for vegetation cover in both exclosure (45.23 %) and forest plot (45.08 %). There was a significant difference between plots for species diversity and forest plot had diversity index of 1.01 while exclosure had a diversity index of 0.741.

Taxonomical and chorological notes on the Turkish endemic Bupleurum pendikum Snogerup (Umbelliferae)
(Wfl Publ, 2011) Aksoy, Necmi; Aslan, Serdar; Efe, Asuman; Gunes, Neval
Bupleurum pendikum Snogerup is a local endemic species known from only two localities in western Turkey. After the rediscovery of Bupleurum pendikum, it has been recorded from a new locality in Kocaeli province. Brief history, morphology, habitat and ecology of this endemic species have been discussed in this research. The conservation status of Bupleurum pendikum is also reviewed based on the present distribution data.

The Flora of the Yuvacık Watershed (Kocaeli-Sakarya)
(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2013) Efe, Asuman; Aksoy, Necmi; Güneş Özkan, Neval; Demir Oral, Dilek; Aslan, Serdar
Yuvacık Dam Watershed (Kocaeli-Sakarya) is situated in between the provincial borders of Kocaeli and Sakarya at the north eastern part of the Marmara Region. According to Turkey’s grid square system, the study area is located in A2(A) and A3 squares. The total study area is 25759 ha with elevation varying between 150 and 1610 metres. The study area is in the transition zones of the three different phytogeographic regions including the Euro-Siberian (Sub-Euxine, under side section), the Mediterranean (the Aegean, under side section), and Irano-Turanian (the side of the inner Anatolia). In the years from 2005 to 2008, total 14 research trips were made to the area, from March - which is the beginning of the vegetation period - to September, which is the end of thevegetation period. In these trips, more than 2000 plant specimens were collected. After the identification of the specimens, 485 taxa were determined as 282 genera belonging to 82 families. 26 taxa were endemic and the rate of endemism was % 5.36. The phytogeographic elements of the area are as follows: Irano-Turanian elements 14 (% 2,9), EuroSiberian elements 137 (33 taxa is Euxine elements) (% 28,3), Mediterranean elements 66 (% 13,6) and the others wide spreaded and those of which phytogeographical region are unidentified, 268 (% 55,3). One of the most valuable result of the study is determination of a new genus for the the flora of Turkey: Chamaespartium sagittale (L.) P.E.Gibbs (Fabaceae).
