    (2025) Duzdar, Irem; Yıldız, Rabia
Climate change, one of the most important problems of our age, is a problem that needs an urgent solution as soon as possible. Mathematical models of climate support this idea. With the results of mathematical models related to climate change, it is aimed to predict effects such as increase in the average surface temperature of the planet, rise in sea level, more frequent and intense natural disasters, decrease in water resources, and imbalances in ecosystems. This study was carried out with the aim to emphasize the possible effects of climate change with mathematical models and encouraging people to take action on this issue and to take appropriate measures to minimize the negative consequences. For this reason, this study was presented to calculate the carbon footprint of Düzce University Konuralp Campus with the IPCC methodology Tier1 approach. The amount of carbon footprint was found to be 4.781.841 tons of CO2. As a result of this analysis, the investment cost of solar energy usage has been calculated since the solar energy availability in the region is appropriate. This study was conducted to draw attention to sustainable campuses and to lead the transition from sustainable campuses to sustainable cities.

Electric Energy Consumption Forecast And Analysis For Duzce Province
(2025) Duzdar, Irem; Taşcı, İlayda Nur
The purpose of this study is to develop estimation models for the electrical energy consumption values of Düzce Province, Turkey. It has been demonstrated that estimation models were constructed and analyzed for the electrical energy consumption of Düzce between November 2019 and October 2021. To create the dataset, data were obtained monthly from Enerji Piyasaları İşletme A.Ş. (EPİAŞ). Since the data cover two periods (12 months and 24 months) and include seasonality, the Least Squares Method, Fourier Analysis, and Winters' Method were chosen as the estimation models. The evaluation of the models using the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) method indicates that Fourier Analysis performs worse than Winters' Method. Winters' Method, which is a multiplicative model, achieved better performance in constructing the electrical energy consumption estimation model in this study. When comparing the two estimation models, no significant difference was observed; however, the analysis results reveal that Winters' Method is more favorable for forecasting electricity consumption values in Düzce for the period between November 2019 and October 2021. These findings demonstrate that Winters' Method outperforms both the Least Squares Method and Fourier Analysis, making it a more reliable option for future studies focused on constructing electricity consumption estimation models. This result emphasizes the importance of using Winters' Method as a reference for future research on electricity demand forecasting.

Lean Digital Transformation in Health Supply Chain: Identifying Barriers to Machine Learning and AI Applications and Strategies to Overcome
(IGI Global, 2025) Kesici, Büşra; Duzdar, Irem
One of the important sectors that need to keep up with digital transformation quickly is healthcare. Given its direct impact on human lives, it is crucial to conduct studies to improve service quality in this sector. Considering the effects of the lean management approach in the healthcare sector on digital transformation in the supply chain is the first important research question for this study. Another research question is the contribution of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) approaches developed in recent years to digital transformation in the healthcare sector. The necessity of digital transformation tools, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, in healthcare services and the challenges faced during their implementation were identified as criteria and a weighting analysis was conducted with the help of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) analysis. Step-Wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) was used to determine the importance weights of the evaluation criteria. Strategies were defined with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) as a solution to the important weights of the challenges. The aim is to reduce costs while increasing supply chain efficiency and effectiveness by identifying practices and strategies that incorporate expert feedback from the industry. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

Lean energy efficiency: scenario analysis of a refrigerator plant application
(2024) Albayrak, Kazım; Duzdar, Irem; Kayakutlu, Gülgün; Kayalıca, M. Ozgur
Energy concern is increasing in the manufacturing companies implementing the most recent technologies. Energy is a major input for many industries and therefore, within the definition of Industry 4.0 new energy efficiency strategies are defined. Energy flexible processes and waste-to-energy are well-known strategies since they are easily implemented in any manufacturing site. Reduction in energy consumption is also facilitated by the preventive maintenance and renewal of the technologies using energy resources. This study aims to apply a lean production method Value Stream Maps (VSM) on energy consumption levels of the processes to evaluate the decision of technology and/or process change. Processes which use energy excessively when compared with the industry average, will be considered as a bottleneck. Using the value stream maps for energy use is accepted as “Lean Energy Efficiency”. Parameters determined by the preparation of these maps will be enriched by interdependencies determined using the Bayesian Belief Network, which will support finding the priorities among the new efficiency activities. This technique will facilitate the decision of repair or buy through priority scenarios showing the possibility of a decision in each scenario. The combination of the Lean Energy Efficiency Method and the Bayesian Belief Network Method will assist the decision-makers in developing more informed and knowledge-based strategies. The case study is realized in a refrigerator factory handling the energy consumption of different departments. Consequently, these findings could be used as a roadmap for the technology renewal investment decisions made by the firm.

(Springer International Publishing, 2025) Duzdar, Irem; Uz, Emre; Kayakutlu, Gülgün; Kayalica, M. Ozgur
Power production through hydroelectric power plants is one of the important methods to produce electricity because of the use of alternative resources while considering the climate issues in our current world. On the other hand, growing economies demand energy in the sectors; therefore, energy demand increases correlatively with sustainable economic growth. In this context, increasing power generation, reducing carbon emissions, and reducing energy generation costs by protecting energy reliability are the main objectives in an energy market. Since the climate issues, these aims require the utilization of the renewable energy source maximum at present. Accordingly, this study mainly aims at the economic analysis of the power generation from hydroelectricity in the electricity market for Türkiye by comprehending the contribution of hydroelectric power plants. Since the 2050 roadmap of hydroelectricity might be beneficial to form the scenarios as realistic as possible by considering the hydroelectric capacity in Türkiye, the long-range energy alternative planning (LEAP) model is used to analyze the cost-effectiveness by applying the scenarios. In this way, the acquired data regarding the energy demands and costs in the energy market for the different scenarios are used to make future predictions and aspects in Turkey. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
