Öğe Analysis of the changes in forest ecosystem functions, structure and composition in the Black Sea region of Turkey(Northeast Forestry Univ, 2017) Keleş, Sedat; Durusoy, İdris; Çakır, GünayWe used geographical information system to analyze changes in forest ecosystem functions, structure and composition in a typical department of forest management area consisting of four forest management planning units in Turkey. To assess these effects over a 25 year period we compiled data from three forest management plans that were made in 1986, 2001 and 2011. Temporal changes in forest ecosystem functions were estimated based on the three pillars of forest sustainability: economics, ecology and socio-culture. We assessed a few indicators such as land-use and forest cover, forest types, tree species, development stage, stand age classes, crown closure, growing stock and its increment, and timber biomass. The results of the case study suggested a shift in forest values away from economic values toward ecological and socio-cultural values over last two planning periods. Forest ecosystem structure improved, due mainly to increasing forest area, decreasing non-forest areas (especially in settlement and agricultural areas), forestation on forest openings, rehabilitation of degraded forests, conversion of even-aged forests to uneven-aged forests and conversion of coppice forests to high forests with greater growing stock increments. There were also favorable changes in forest management planning approaches.Öğe Defining Sustainable Forest Management Criteria for Turkish Forestry(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2012) Durusoy, İdrisSustainable forest management, in a broad sense, is a concept by which community defines the values offorest resources to be maintained. Criteria and indicators are used for concretizing the sustainability. They aretools for assessing and reporting the status and progress towards sustainability. This study defines national levelcriteria for monitoring sustainable forest management. The study employs Delphi method. This study created aDelphi panel including three expert groups: Forestry Institutions, Academicians and NGOs. Study produced ninecriteria for assessing sustainability in forest resource management in Turkey.Öğe Orman Ekonomisi Alanındaki Lisansüstü Tez Özetlerinin Sözbilimsel Hareket Çözümlemesi(2019) Durusoy, İdris; Dağ, FatmanaÖzet, okuyucunun tam metne ilgi duyup duymadığına karar verdiği araştırma bölümü olduğu için özenlehazırlanmalıdır. Türkiye’de araştırma makalesi ve tez özetlerinin sözbilimsel çözümlemesine ilişkin bazıçalışmalar bulunmasına karşın, ormancılık alanında bu tür bir çalışmaya rastlanmamıştır. Bu çalışma, ormanekonomisi alanında yapılmış yüksek lisans ve doktora tez özetlerinin, zaman ve tez türü etkilerini de dikkate alaraksözbilimsel hareket çözümlemesini yapmayı amaçlamıştır. 1987-2018 yılları arasında yapılan 197 adet tez özetiincelenmiştir. Özet metinleri beşli hareket modeline göre kodlanmıştır. Çalışmada, yazarların özetlerde en çokamaç (A), yöntem (Y) ve sonuçlar (S) hareketlerine yer verdiği, tezlerin yarısında tartışma ve giriş hareketinin yerbulmadığı belirlenmiştir. Metin büyüklüğü bakımından özet içindeki ağırlığı en fazla olan hareket sonuçlar, en azolan ise tartışma olmuştur. Tezlerde en fazla bir arada bulunan hareketler amaç, yöntem ve sonuçlar iken, A-Y-Sdüzeni de en fazla görülen hareket düzeni olmuştur. Sonuçlar, araştırma/tez yazımı üzerine bir dersin enstitülerdeözellikle yüksek lisans öğrencilerine okutulmasının gerekliliğini ortaya koymuştur. Tez yazım rehberinde tezözetinde hangi bilgilere yer verilmesi gerektiği, sözbilimsel hareket temelli olarak ayrıntılı verilmelidir.Öğe Ormancılık Makalelerinde Türkçe Sözcük Kullanım Değişimlerinin İncelenmesi: Forestist Dergisi Örneği(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2023) Bahçeci Öztürk, Yıldız; Durusoy, İdrisBu araştırmada İstanbul Üniversitesi-Cerrahpaşa Orman Fakültesi Dergisi’nde (Forestist) yayımlanmış makalelerde dönemsel kelime kullanımlarına yönelik bir içerik analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Dönemsel kelime kullanımlarını tespit etmek, dilin evrimini ve zaman içerisindeki değişimini anlamak için son derece önemlidir. Bu bağlamda tam metnine ulaşılabilen 2293 adet araştırma incelenmiştir. Makaleler onar yıllık dönemlere ayrılarak kelime kullanım sıklıkları belirlenmiştir. Zamansal kelime kullanım değişimlerini belirlemek maksadıyla, eski dönemlerde sık kullanılıp günümüzde kullanılmayan ve günümüzde kullanılmasına karşın eski dönemlerde kullanılmayan kelimeler tespit edilerek incelenmiştir. Ayrıca Türkçede Batı Kökenli Kelimeler Sözlüğünde yer alan kelimelerin dönemsel kullanım sıklıkları da belirlenmiştir. Sonuçta, geçmişte yaygın kullanılan birçok kelimenin günümüzde hiç kullanılmadığını, geçmişte yaygın kullanılan birçok kelimenin de bugün hiç kullanılmadığı belirlenmiştir. Aynı zamanda, batı dillerinden gelen kelimelerin de ormancılık bilimi yazılarında sıkça kullanıldığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Bilimsel dergilerde yayımlanan yazıların, meslek mensuplarını ve toplumu bilgilendirici görevi olduğundan, bu metinlerde dilimizin doğru kullanımı açısından dil incelemesinin, dilbilim alanından uzmanların desteği de alınarak yapılması önerilebilir.Öğe Social Responsibility in Forest Product Industry: Case of Turkey’s Top 1000 Industrial Enterprises(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2012) Gedik, Tarık; Durusoy, İdrisBesides the growing environmental concerns, the social aspect of social responsibility has becomeincreasingly important for forest industry. This study explores the social responsibility demands andexpectations of forest products companies’ environment and especially those of consumers. The scope of studyis the forest products industry companies recorded in Turkey’s Top 500 and Second 500 Industrial Enterpriseslisted by The Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO). According to the consumers, foremost issues for socialresponsibility in forest products industry are the health, security and standardization for the production and useof products. Forest products companies should adopt more holistic approach to the social responsiveness whichis an indispensable part of the contemporary business notion.Öğe Spatially explicit estimates and temporal changes of forest tree biomass in a typical department of forest management, Turkey(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2017) Keleş, Sedat; Durusoy, İdrisThis study presents temporal changes in forest timber biomass of a department of forest management consisting of four forest management units in Turkey. Changes in forest tree biomass are linked to forest cover change during 1986-2011 period based on forest inventory data. We also produced forest biomass density maps using Geographical Information Systems. The results showed a net increase of 1,755 ha in forested areas of the Department of Golyaka Forest Management. Depending on the increase of forested area (1,755 ha and the annual forestation rate was 0.44% per year) and growing stock volumes (27% increase), total forest tree biomass also increased by 27.6% in this period. The observed trends of the increasing forest tree biomass in the study area could be explained by the increasing forested area, the decreasing settlement and agricultural lands, the forestation on forest openings, the rehabilitation of degraded forests and the conversion of coppice forest to high forests with greater growing stock increments.Öğe What Are Foresters Taught? An Analysis of Undergraduate Level Forestry Curricula in Turkiye(Mdpi, 2022) Durusoy, İdris; Öztürk, Yıldız BahçeciAs the forestry profession evolved from extractive management to sustainable forest management, forestry education and curricula had to reflect these changes. While forestry education and curriculum have been extensively analyzed for different countries, no such analysis exists for Turkish forestry. This study analyzes the curriculum and course contents of all undergraduate-level forest engineering programs across Turkiye. The study employed content analysis to explore disparities among the schools. The courses are classified into disciplinary fields depending on their contents. Verbs used in learning outcomes were analyzed using Bloom's taxonomy. Mandatory and elective requirements of forestry programs are quite similar, indicating little disparity among schools in different regions. Course categorization reveals that forestry education emphasizes biophysical and technical sciences. Learning outcomes focused heavily on the low-level thinking dimensions of Bloom. We conclude that the Turkish forestry curriculum needs a reformative change to equip students with skill sets to practice sustainable forest management.
