Öğe Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Escherichia Coli Strains Isolated from Urine Cultures(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2014) Gültepe, Bilge; Ceylan, Ayşenur; Doymaz, Mehmet Ziya; Iraz, MeryemObjective: Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are most common causes of bacterial infections inhumans. Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most frequently isolated microorganism in cases ofuncomplicated UTI. In this study, we aimed to determine antimicrobial resistance patterns ofE.coli strains isolated from patients with UTI. Materials and Methods: E.coli strains isolated from urine cultures of patients admitted to theHospital of the Medical Faculty of Bezmialem Vakif University were retrospectively evaluatedbetween the dates of January 2013 and December 2013. The bacterial identification and ratesof antibiotic resistance were determined using VITEK-2 automatized system. Results: E.coli isolates were found to have low resistance rates to fosfomycin (0.6%),nitrofurantoin (5.3%) and amikacin (8%). Among the other antibiotics, the lowest susceptibilityrates were detected to ampicillin (64%), trimetoprim/sulfomethoxazole (43.2%),amoxicillin/clavulonic acid (32.8%).Conclusion: Fosfomisin, nitrofurantoin and amikacin are thought to be suitable antimicrobialagens in the empiric treatment treatment of uncomplicated UTI
