    The Short-lived Spring Weather between Menderes-İnönü and Its Reflections (1957)

    Upon assuming power in 1950, the Democratic Party garnered a significant percentage of votes in the 1954 elections, owing to the public's endorsement of its four-year record. However, in the aftermath of the election, the party's grievances with the opposition, particularly the CHP, were brought to the forefront. The opposition constantly voiced their disapproval against the government, which attempted to curb dissenting voices in both the opposition and the pres through legislation. In 1957, the conflict between the government and opposition escalated to its zenith. A few months of peace, dubbed "springweather", occurred between DP and CHP from February when early election talks began. İnönü and Menderes were significant figures of this tranquil period, with other opposition parties and leaders excluded from the proceedings. The only positive effect of the DP-CHP rapprochement was becoming province of Kırşehir. Nevertheless, the termination of CMP leader Bölükbaşı's immunity put an end to the peaceful process. Within the CHP, there were grievances about the damage the springmood had done to the party. This analysis reflects the moderate political climate and events during this period.
