Humans use several coping attitudes to decrease or completely eliminate the negative effects of stressful events orfactors. These attitudes help individuals to keep their adaptation during the stressful period. This descriptive study aimedto evaluate the coping attitudes among nursing students from a school of health. Data collection tools used in this studywere Personal Information Form and Coping Attitudes Scale (CAS). For the 346 students participating in the study, thehighest CAS score was obtained from the subscale of “Positive Reinterpretation and Development” in the emotionfocused category. There was a significant difference between males and females in all sub-categories of CAS. Femaleswere found to use all coping attitudes more than males. The difference was more pronounced in emotion-focusedcategory. Although there was no significant difference between the students with substance abuse (alcohol, drugs, etc.)and those without in terms of using non-functional coping attitudes, the median scores for problem- and emotion-focusedcoping attitudes were significantly higher in students without substance abuse compared to those with. Some professionsare more stressful than others. The nursing profession is also a stressful occupation in terms of working conditions andrequires using effective coping attitudes. As it was in the nurses, developing effective coping attitudes for stress innursing students will not only improve their mental and physical health and maintain their relationships with others butalso will directly affect the patients’ care they provide
