Öğe Application of Symbiotic Organisms Search Algorithm to Solve Various Economic Load Dispatch Problems(Ieee, 2016) Güvenç, Uğur; Duman, Serhat; Döşoğlu, M. Kenan; Kahraman, H. Tolga; Sönmez, Yusuf; Yılmaz, CemalThis paper proposes the application of Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) Algorithm to solve the various Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problems. Both classical ELD problem which has smooth fuel cost function and nonconvex ELD problem which has nonconvex and discontinuous fuel cost function due to considering of some practical constraints like valve point effects, ramp rate limits and prohibited generating zones have been solved in the study. Three different test cases have been used to show the efficiency and reliability of the proposed algorithm. 38-unit test system has been used for classical ELD and 3-unit and 15-unit test systems have been used for nonconvex ELD problem. Results have been compared to various heuristic methods reported before in the literature and they show that proposed algorithm converges to the global optimum in early iterations and can produce superior results than others in the solution of ELD problems which have both smooth and nonconvex and discontinuous fuel cost function.Öğe Economic dispatch by using different crossover operators of genetic algorithm(Istanbul University, 2010) Duman, Serhat; Öztürk, Ali; Döşoğlu, M. Kenan; Tosun, SalihThe great advances in technology and industry have brought about an increase in the demand for energy in electrical power systems. In order to meet this increased demand, planning the operation of power systems and optimum operation of those systems are required. To obtain it, optimal power flow, reactive power optimization and solutions of the economic dispatch problem are required. The problem of Economical Dispatch (ED) is one of the limited non-linear optimization problems of electrical power systems. Operation of generators with minimum cost by being held in certain limit values is required. Intuitional methods resulting in better conclusions have been used in solving this complicated non-linear problem so far. In this study, the conclusions obtained on conditions with line loss and without line loss of 3 and 6 switchboards with thermal fuel were compared with each other by using different crossover operators of genetic algorithm (GA).Öğe Investigation of TCSC and SSSC controller effects on the power system(2011) Doğan, Metin; Tosun, Salih; Öztürk, Ali; Döşoğlu, M. KenanElectrical power systems have been growing due to the increased demand and various loads and it is getting more and more difficult to provide stability and control. It is possible to increase line transmission capacities and to control these systems by providing reactive power compensation. In the recent years, FACTS (Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System) devices have been used as reactive power compensation elements. The study utilized rapid responding TCSC (Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor) and SSSC (Static Synchronous Series Compensator) FACTS devices that are formed by power electronics elements. The effects of these devices on voltage stability, on the powers carried on the lines and the losses that occur on the lines were investigated with the simulation and its results. © 2011 Chamber of Turkish Electric.Öğe Investigation of the best placement for voltage stability by STATCOM(2011) Doğan, Metin; Döşoğlu, M. Kenan; Maden, Dinçer; Tosun, Salih; Öztürk, AliThe study is related to the identification of optimal point for Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) for static voltage stability. The study undertaken in IEEE 14 buses systems utilized analysis for relationships in voltage maximum loading parameters of STATCOM placed between lines and analysis for change in the bus voltage. Maximum loading parameter values obtained for each line and the improvements in weak buses that provided the best results were given in tables and figures. The results of the study show that STATCOM improves the voltage instability cases that can occur in optimal place selection. © 2011 Chamber of Turkish Electric.Öğe LCL Filter Design for Grid Connected Three-Phase Inverter(Ieee, 2018) Dursun, Mustafa; Döşoğlu, M. KenanIn this study, LCL filter design was performed by simulating and theoretical analysis detail of a grid-connected system in MATLAB / Simulink environment. Inverters connected to the grid, filter is required as an interface between the inverter and the electric grid. The most effective filter for suppressing of the current harmonics occurring from the switching frequency injected into the grid is the LCL filter. The LCL filter must be designed appropriately to achieve high quality grid currents. LCL parameters are calculated for synchronized operation of the converter and grid. Simulation results were shown that, the LCL filter designed for harmonics has decreased in high degree harmonics in inverter output.Öğe Symbiotic organisms search algorithm for dynamic economic dispatch with valve-point effects(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2017) Sönmez, Yusuf; Kahraman, H. Tolga; Döşoğlu, M. Kenan; Güvenç, Uğur; Duman, SerhatIn this study, symbiotic organisms search (SOS) algorithm is proposed to solve the dynamic economic dispatch with valve-point effects problem, which is one of the most important problems of the modern power system. Some practical constraints like valve-point effects, ramp rate limits and prohibited operating zones have been considered as solutions. Proposed algorithm was tested on five different test cases in 5 units, 10 units and 13 units systems. The obtained results have been compared with other well-known metaheuristic methods reported before. Results show that proposed algorithm has a good convergence and produces better results than other methods.Öğe Symbiotic organisms search algorithm for economic load dispatch problem with valve-point effect(Elsevier Science Bv, 2018) Güvenç, Uğur; Duman, Serhat; Sönmez, Yusuf; Kahraman, H. Tolga; Döşoğlu, M. KenanSymbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) is a brand new and effective metaheuristic optimization algorithm. This paper proposes the SOS algorithm to solve the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem with valve-point effect, which is one of the essential optimization problems in modern power systems. The proposed algorithm is tested on five different test cases consisting of 3-machine 6-bus, IEEE 5-machine 14-bus, IEEE 6-machine 30-bus, and 13- and 40-unit test systems both with transmission loss and without transmission loss. These test cases show that SOS is able to converge on the global optima, successfully. Moreover, results obtained from the proposed algorithm are compared through different methods used in solving the ELD problem existing in the literature. According to these results, SOS produces the best values among all methods. (C) 2018 Sharif University of Technology.
