Many of the families with the handicapped children brush up against difficulties in terms of psychological, financial,family and social environment relationships. Responsibility of a handicapped child causes to be the mandatory changesin the family, and also may affects the family's social life participation. The purpose of this research is to assess ascomparative the social life participation of the families with the handicapped (physically and/or mentally) individualsin Duzce, and identify factors affecting and/or blocking their social life participation, and develop the solution suggestionsaccordingly. For this purpose, total 102 families with 31.4% mental, 30.4%, physical, 27.5% physical-mental handicappedindividuals have been involved in the study. As a result, it is found that the handicap type of child and education levelof parents’ affect significantly on their dreams in the future and plans of their families. However it is concluded that thefamily's income is not an important factor in the social participation of families.
