(Aydın Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi, 2023) Akkaş, Özlem Altınbaş; Açıl, Ayşegül; Bozkurt, Feyza Demir; Eker, Fatma
Objective: To examine nursing students’ attitudes towards computer use in health care and the factors affecting their attitudes. Methods: 357 nursing students were included in the descriptive study. Data were collected in the Spring Term of the 2019-2020 Academic Year through the use of Personal Information Form, Pretest for Attitudes Toward Computers in Healthcare (P.A.T.C.H.) Assessment Scale and the Opinion Form Regarding the Use of Computer Supported Nursing Care Plan. Quantitative data was presented as number (n), average as (minimum-maximum), and frequency as (percent). The level of significance was determined as p <0.05. After open-ended questions were read by the researchers, codes were created using MAXQDA software, and descriptive analysis of the codes (frequency) was conducted. Results: The total score of the Pretest for Attitudes Toward Computers in Healthcare Scale was determined as 13.13 ± 8.98. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the average score of Pretest for Attitudes Toward Computers in Healthcare Scale and the use of computer and mobile technology, using computers in the clinic, and closely monitoring technology. It was seen that the students answered minimizing time loss, reducing workload, easy access to patient data and a decrease in errors/more reliability as the advantages of using computer-supported care plan; and an obstacle for individualized care, inadequate computer skills and technology-dependent care plans were brought forth as the disadvantages. Conclusion: This study reveals that nursing students are confident in their ability to use computer programs and are willing to use computer in health care.
