    The Effect of Short and Long Term Inhaler Corticosteroid Use on Oral and Periodontal Health in Asthmatic Patients

    Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical effects of the short and long terminhaler corticosteroid (ICS) use on oral and periodontal health in asthmatic patients.Methods: Control group was consisted of 17 subjects who had no systemic problems, whilethe study group consisted of 51 patients with asthma using ICS. Study groups were divided intothree subgroups in respect of the duration of ICS use. The clinical parameters such as PlaqueIndex (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Clinical attachment levels (CAL), Probing depth (PD), DMFT and salivary pH were recorded. Intraoral examination of patients was done for any mucosalpathology.Results: PI, GI, CAL, PD and salivary pH values of all subgroups of the study group were foundhigher than those of in control group (P
