In achieving this, it is important to have good media literacy and health literacy levels. This study aims to examine the levels of new media and health literacy among young people and the interaction between these two. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out with 399 students studying at a state university in Istanbul. In the study, the “new media literacy scale” developed by Koç and Barut (2014) was used to measure the media literacy of university youth. The health literacy level of the youth was determined by the "Turkey health literacy scale-32 (TSOY32)". In the analysis of the collected data, non-parametric tests and then post hoc tests were used. Results and Conclusion: While 83% of the youth have an excellent health literacy level, the median (minimummaximum) values of the functional consumption, critical consumption, functional production and critical production subdimensions of the new media literacy scale are 25 (8-35), 40 (0-68), respectively. ), 25 (7-51) and 30 (10-50). It has been determined that women have a higher level of health literacy than men, Participants with excellent health literacy levels have higher functional consumption, functional production and critical production scores than other participants. It has been determined that there is no significant difference between the levels of health literacy in terms of critical consumption scores, and similarly, the health literacy and new media literacy scores of the students who constantly follow the newspaper were higher. Although the internet, which is one of the most effective communication tools of the 21st century, seems to be a time-consuming medium for most people, over time it has emerged as one of the sources of information for individuals. Although innovations that facilitate human life such as easy access to information have entered our world with the use of the Internet, some problems occur in learning the right information from the right source and using the information in daily life by interpreting it correctly. Although new media literacy and health literacy are two different concepts related to the same medium, as a result of the study; It was determined that the health literacy scores of the participants who had high scores in three of the four new media literacy sub-dimensions were at an excellent level. Therefore, it can be said that providing information or training on new media literacy in order to bring the health literacy level of the society to a better level will play an extremely important role in health-related issues that would be beneficial to inform individuals online.
