Öğe Agricultural Applications in Hazelnut Gardens and Pesticide Use Status of Growers in Düzce, Türkiye(Ordu Üniversitesi, 2023) Batur, Tuba; Arslan, Zübeyde Filiz; Altın, NedimObjective: This study was carried out to determine agricultural practices and problems related to pesticides in hazelnut orchards in Düzce province. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in Düzce province in 2022-2023. A questionary study was conducted by face-to-face interviews with 30 growers residing in Düzce Center and the districts (Akçakoca, Cumayeri, Çilimli, Gölyaka, Kaynaşlı and Yığılca). The number of questionary in the districts was determined by taking into account the production area and amount of hazelnut. Growers were asked 48 questions about the agricultural structure and practices in hazelnut orchards, their demographic and socio-economic situations, pesticide application situations and level of awareness about pesticides, and the results were calculated proportionally. Results: As a result of the study, it was determined that the growers get information from pesticide dealers and Provincial/District Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry for pesticide selection and deciding on the dose, active substance and cost of the product are important in their preferences, they do not apply the same pesticides continuously for controlling plant protection agents, and they start pesticide applications before pests and diseases are seen, they applied pesticides at the recommended dosage, complied with the waiting period between the last spraying and harvest time, used protective clothing and masks while applying pesticides but did not calibration, mixed some pesticides, and mostly preferred chemical control against plant protection agents. Conclusion: It has been concluded that hazelnut growers in Düzce province prefer to apply pesticides to combat agricultural pests in their gardens, and although they had basic knowledge about pesticides, they have some mistakes in pesticide applications. Training should be provided to growers to reduce existing problems and increase production quality.
