Öğe Use of Newly Developed Drought Tolerant Ornamental Plant Varieties and Variety Candidates and Climate-Friendly Landscape Designs in Erzincan During Climate Change(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2024) Askan, Gökhan; Kalenderoğlu, Hakan; Aslay, MeralThis study was conducted to emphasize the xeriscape criterion in landscape planning due to the increasingly evident adverse effects of climate change in Turkey and its status as a water-stressed country. The main material of the study consists of natural species with landscape value, found in newly cultivated drought-tolerant lands specific to Erzincan, as a result of field studies. These species include Fritillaria imperialis (Crown Imperial), Hesperis isatidea (Red Hesperis), Gypsophila sp. (Baby’s Breath), Vinca soneri (Osman Flower), Iris spuria ssp. musulmanica (Steppe Iris), Muscari tenuiflorum (Tassel Hyacinth), Muscari azureum (Azure Grape Hyacinth), Tulipa julia (Wild Tulip), Hyacinthus orientalis (Common Hyacinth), Eremurus spectabilis (Foxtail Lily), Sambucus ebulus L. (Dwarf Elder), Sicilia siberica subsp. armena (Armenian Squill), and Cotinus coggyria (Smoke Tree). The field studies aimed to ensure the sustainability of natural and endemic plant species with xerophytic value. It is intended that these species become the main elements of landscape design in the process of climate change. Discussions with city decision-makers will encourage the use of these species in future landscape planning. Thus, a resource value will be created for climate-friendly landscape planning.
