Öğe Annexin A2, A7 and A11 Immunohistochemical Expression in Prostate Adenocarcinoma and Relationship with Prognostic Factors(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2013) Sönmez, Aynur Albayrak; Öcal, Berrak Gümüşkaya; Hücümenoğlu, Sema; Alper, Murat; Oktay, MuratPurpose: The role of calcium dependent phospholipase binding protein family membersAnnexin A2, A7 and A11 in the development and progression of prostate cancer was explored. Methods: Protein expressions of Annexin A2, A7 and A11 were examined byimmunohistochemistry in 53 clinicopathologically characterized prostate cancer and peritumoralareas. Difference between cancer and normal tissues was evaluated and relationship withprognostic factors was determined. Results: The expression of Annexin A2, A7 and A11, effect regulation of membrane functions, cellular homeostasis, and proliferation, were down-regulated in prostate cancer compared withadjacent non-cancerous tissues ( respectively p=0,022; 0,028; 0,033). Expression of annexina2, a7 and a11 did not correlate with age, stage, invasion of capsule and perineural tissue. Conclusion: the decrease of expression of Annexin A2, A7 and A11 protein in prostateadenocarcinoma can associate with acquired capability of invasion and loss of differentiationof tumor cells. Annexin A2 can used as immunohistochemical helper in differential diagnosisbetween normal and carcinomatous tissues on biopsyÖğe Cholesterol granuloma of the maxillary sinus(Ethiopian Med Assn, 2004) Alper, Murat; Belenli, Olcay Kandemir; Aksoy, Kamuran Aylin; Suna, Mazlume; Çukur, SelmaCholesterol granuloma is usually associated with middle ear disease and is very rare in the paranasal sinuses. We report a case of cholesterol granuloma originating in the maxillary sinus of a 36-year-old female. Endoscopic sinus surgery was performed on the left maxillary sinus, and the cholesterol granuloma was successfully removed by the middle meatal antrostomy.Öğe Chronic actinic dermatitis: Associated depigmentation and its relationship with "compositae" dermatitis(2003) Kavak, Ayşe; Alper, MuratA variety of etiologies such as photoallergic, phototoxic, immunologic and metabolic factors have been postulated in chronic actinic dermatitis. Presented case had a chronic eczematous plagues consistent with chronic actinic dermatid. In addition, he had an uncommon lesion presented as vitiligo like depigmentation. Sesquiterpene lactone mix was positive in the standard patch test. Thus, we discussed the relationship between chronic actinic dermatitis and "compositae" dermatitis according to the result of this test. Finally, the effectiveness of azathioprine treatment was summarized.Öğe Epidural extension of a lumbar vertebral haemangioma(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2006) İş, Merih; Gezen, Ferruh; Alper, Murat; Yıldız, H.K.; Akyüz, FevzullahVertebral haemangiomas are relatively common, but those extending into the epidural space are rare. A 59-year-old man with severe lower back and right leg pain that did not resolve with conservative treatment was seen in an outpatient clinic. Magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine identified an L3 vertebral corpus lesion with epidural extension. The diagnosis was unclear, so the patient underwent surgery. The pathologic diagnosis was capillary haemangioma, so angiography-guided embolization was performed postoperatively. Vertebral haemangioma must be considered when there is evidence of a vertebral corpus lesion with epidural extension on magnetic resonance imaging. We report the case of a 40-year-old man with tuberculous involvement of the epiglottis and primary adrenal insufficiency. Endoscopic examination showed a severely swollen epiglottis with granulomatous and partially necrotic mucosa. The patient has been treated with glucocorticoids for four years due to primary adrenocortical. insufficiency. We therefore assume that tuferculous involvement of epiglottis is due to the reactivation of pulmonary TBC. We also discuss differential diagnosis and management of epiglottic TBC and Addison's disease.Öğe A fatal case of Reye syndrome after varicella and ingestion of aspirin(Japanese Dermatolgical Assoc, 2001) Çaksen, Hüseyin; Güler, Ekrem; Alper, Murat; Üstünbaş, Hasan Basri…Öğe Gastric pseudolipomatosis, usual or unusual? Re-evaluation of 909 endoscopic gastric biopsies(Baishideng Publishing Group Inc, 2003) Alper, Murat; Akcan, Yusuf; Belenli, Olcay; Çukur, Selma; Aksoy, Kamuran A.; Suna, MazlumeMicrovesicular pneumatosis intestinalis, also called "pseudolipomatosis" for resembling fatty infiltration, is characterized by the presence of small gas voids in the gastrointestinal wall, especially in mucosa. These voids are not lined with epithelia. There are few reported cases about colon, duodenum and skin. Because there is only one case report about pseudolipomatosis in the stomach, we re-evaluated 909 endoscopic biopsies taken from gastric corpus to check the presence of pseudolipomatosis. We determined pseudolipomatosis foci in 3 percent (n=27) of biopsies. In two cases there were pseudolipomatosis foci in endoscopic biopsies having otherwise normal histologic findings, while there were pseudolipomatosis foci in endoscopic biopsies of 25 patients with gastritis. H pylori was found in 85 % of biopsies having pseudolipomatosis foci. In this study, we presented some histopathologic characteristics of pseudolipomatosis seen in gastric mucosa.Öğe In vivo evaluation of teicoplanin- and calcium sulfate-loaded PMMA bone cement in preventing implant-related osteomyelitis in rats(Esift Srl, 2006) Tüzüner, Tolga; Şencan, İrfan; Özdemir, Davut; Alper, Murat; Duman, S.; Yavuz, Tevfik; Yıldırım, MustafaThe objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of teicoplanin- and calcium sulphate-loaded polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cements in preventing experimental implant-related osteomyelitis in rats. Four groups of antibiotic-loaded rods were prepared and were implanted into the lateral condylus of the rat femur after inoculation of Staphylococcus aureus. The effectiveness of these were assessed microbiologically, radiographically, and histopathologically. Radiographic evaluation revealed a significant reduction of periostal reaction and osteolysis in rats that received calcium sulphate- and teicoplanin-loaded rods. Histopathological evaluation confirmed these results. Acute infection and bone necrosis were found to be significantly lower in rats that had received calcium sulphate- and teicoplanin-loaded rods. The addition of calcium sulfate to teicoplanin-loaded PMMA bone cement appeared satisfactory as an antibiotic-carrying system for prophylaxis of experimental implant-related osteomyelitis, but further investigations are needed to reach definitive statements for clinical applications.Öğe An infant with urticaria pigmentosa and rickets(Japanese Dermatolgical Assoc, 2002) Alper, Murat; Kurtoğlu, Selim; Erdoğan, Recep…Öğe Is a case of sweet's syndrome associated with Behçet's disease?(2003) Parlak, Ali Haydar; Kavak, Ayşe; Alper, Murat; Tunç, MuratOral aphthae, genital ulceration, uveitis, positive pathergy test and cutaneous vasculitis are diagnostic criteria of Behçet's disease. Similar symptoms may also appear in Sweet's syndrome. We report here a case of Sweet's syndrome associated with oral aphthae, erythema nodosum, episcleritis and positive pathergy test, with a history of upper respiratory tract infection and drug administration. She did not have any symptoms of Behçet's disease except for recurrent oral aphthae and arthralgia previously. Whether she has Sweet's sydrome in Behçet's disease or an isolated entity has been also discussed.Öğe Lamellar ichthyosis: a case report(Turkish J Pediatrics, 2002) Özyürek, Hamit; Kavak, Ayşe; Alper, MuratIchthyoses are divided into four groups according to clinical, histopathologic and genetic findings. Lamellar ichthyosis is one of them. The incidence of lamellar ichthyosis is believed to be approximately 1 per 100,000 to 300,000 live births. It is characterized by large, polygonal, grayish brown, and tightly adherent scales. We report a four-year-old boy with desquamative lesions since birth who had six-year-old sister with similar lesions, suggesting an autosomal recessive inheritance. His skin biopsy revealed hyperkeratosis with lamellae. There were no associated hair or neurological abnormalities. His clinical and histopathological findings were typical for isolated lamellar ichthyosis. Because of its rare occurrence, we report this case with a review of the literature.Öğe Large pedinculated antral hyperplastic gastric polyp traversed the bulbus causing outlet obstruction and iron deficiency anemia: endoscopic removal(W J G Press, 2003) Alper, Murat; Akcan, Yusuf; Belenli, OlcayWe present here a large (3 cm) hyperplastic gastric polyp prolapsed into duodenum and caused outlet obstruction and iron deficiency anemia in 60 years old male patient. Endoscopic removal was performed successfully.Öğe Localized cutaneous leishmaniasis in a Turkish child(Japanese Dermatolgical Assoc, 2001) Çaksen, Hüseyin; Soysal, Vasıf; Alper, Murat…Öğe Massive gastrointestinal tubercolsis in a young patient without immunosupression(W J G Press, 2003) Sertbaş, Yaşar; Alper, Murat; Akcan, Yusuf; Gürbüz, Yeşim; Öksüz, ŞükrüAlthough the lung is the major site for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, gastrointestinal involvement can be present as part of multiorgan disease process or, less commenly, can be seen as primary gastrointestinal tuberculosis. In the cases where the culture is negative, it can be difficult to differantiate tuberculosis from Crohn's disease based on both the clinical and histological features. When side effects of classic antimycobacteria are encountered, we can initially add ciprofloxacin to the treatment of tuberculosis. We reported a case of 19-yr-old patient, who was treated as Crohn's disease and worsen. We began to tuberculosis treatment, and the patient improved clinically and histologically. The main point in this case is that widespread involvement of gastrointestinal tract can be brought about by non resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis even in immunocompetent patients.Öğe Measurement of epidermal thickness in a patient with psoriasis by computer-supported image analysis(Associacao Brasileira de Divulgacao Cientifica, 2004) Alper, Murat; Kavak, Ayşe; Parlak, Ali Haydar; Demirci, Recep; Belenli, İbrahim; Yeşildal, NurayThe aim of the present study was to measure full epidermal thickness, stratum corneum thickness, rete length, dermal papilla widening and suprapapillary epidermal thickness in psoriasis patients using a light microscope and computer-supported image analysis. The data obtained were analyzed in terms of patient age, type of psoriasis, total body surface area involvement, scalp and nail involvement, duration of psoriasis, and family history of the disease. The study was conducted on 64 patients and 57 controls whose skin biopsies were examined by light microscopy. The acquired microscopic images were transferred to a computer and measurements were made using image analysis. The skin biopsies, taken from different body areas, were examined for different parameters such as epidermal, corneal and suprapapillary epidermal thickness. The most prominent increase in thickness was detected in the palmar region. Corneal thickness was more pronounced in patients with scalp involvement than in patients without scalp involvement (t = -2.651, P = 0.008). The most prominent increase in rete length was observed in the knees (median: 491 ?m, t = 10.117, P = 0.000). The difference in rete length between patients with a positive and a negative family history was significant (t = -3.334, P = 0.03), being 27% greater in psoriasis patients without a family history. The differences in dermal papilla distances among patients were very small. We conclude that microscope-supported thickness measurements provide objective results.Öğe Micropneumatosis coexistent with Helicobacter pylori and its improvement(2003) Belenli, Olcay Kandemir; Akcan, Yusuf; Alper, MuratMicropneumatosis intestinalis is the occurrence of gas-filled circular voids with diameter of 20-200 microns, not lined with epithelium. We report a 39-year-old man with superficial gastritis and Helicobacter pylori infection who also had gastric, duodenal and colonic micropneumatosis. Endoscopic biopsy after treatment for H. pylori gastritis showed no micropneumatosis in gastric, duodenal or colonic mucosal sections. We suggest that H. pylori may be one of the causative factors for micropneumatosis.Öğe Morgagni cyst within tubal lipoma(2005) Alper, Murat; Aksoy, Kasım; Somunkıran, Aslı; Belenli, OlcayBoth benign and malignant tumors of the fallopian tube are uncommon. Benign tumors are most often of mesodermal origin and usually are small enough to be incidental findings at laparotomy. We describe a fallopian tube lipoma that inserted a morgagni hydatid cyst in a 48 year old woman.Öğe Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola: A distinct entity(Mosby, Inc, 2002) Baykal, Can; Büyükbabani, Nesimi; Kavak, Ayşe; Alper, MuratAlthough nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola was initially described in 1923, there are only case reports or reviews, about it; no large series have been documented to date. The clinical features of the reported cases in the literature are not uniform, and it is questioned whether nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola is a distinct clinicopathologic entity or a clinical presentation of various dermatoses. We describe 7 cases with hyperkeratotic nevoid lesions localized on the nipple and areola with different clinical features. None of them had any other associated dermatologic or systemic disease. Histopathologic examination was performed in 6 patients. Four of them had common histopathologic features suggesting a distinct entity, namely, nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola; 2 of them had histopathologic features consistent with seborrheic keratosis. Seborrheic keratosis presents as sharply demarcated papules or plaques, whereas nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple or areola presents as a plaque diffusely involving the nipple or the areola.Öğe A new mutation of the fukutin gene in a non-Japanese patient(Wiley-Liss, 2003) Sılan, Fatma; Yoshioka, Mieko; Kobayashi, Kazuhiro; Şimşek, Enver; Tunç, Murat; Alper, Murat; Toda, TatsushiFukuyama-type congenital muscular dystrophy (FCMD) , Walker-Warburg syndrome, and muscle-eye-brain disease are clinically similar autosomal recessive disorders characterized by congenital muscular dystrophy, cobblestone lissencephaly, and eye anomalies. FCMD is frequent in Japan, but no FCMD patient with confirmed fukutin gene mutations has been identified in a non-Japanese population. Here, we describe a Turkish CMD patient with severe brain and eye anomalies. Sequence analysis of the patient's DNA identified a homozygous 1bp insertion mutation in exon 5 of the fukutin gene. To our knowledge, this is the first case worldwide in which a fukutin mutation has been found outside the Japanese population. This report emphasizes the importance of considering fukutin mutations for diagnostic purposes outside of Japan.Öğe Penile Kaposi's sarcoma in a human immunodeficiency virus-seronegative patient(Blackwell Science Ltd, 2001) Kavak, Ayşe; Akman, Ramazan Yavuz; Alper, Murat; Büyükbabani, Nesimi…
