Öğe Pediatric Peptic Ulcer Disease: Is It Significant?(Düzce Üniversitesi, 2015) Çam, SebahatPeptic ulcer disease is extremely rare in pediatric age. However, it can cause severegastrointestinal bleeding. Pediatric peptic ulcers are usually associated with nonspecificsymptoms. Therefore, the most important factor for early diagnosis is clinical suspicion aboutthe presence of this disease. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is the gold standard method fordiagnosis. Medical management almost always provides high clinical success. Pediatriciansshould have sufficient background information about this disease and endoscopic investigationshould not be ignored when clinically indicated.Key Worlds: Peptic ulcer, childhood, H. pyloriÖğe The Prediction of Allergic Proctocolitis by Using Hematological Parameters119(2020) Çam, SebahatAim: Allergic proctocolitis (AP) is a common cause of rectal bleeding in infants. There is nodiagnostic tool specific to the disease. The aim of the study was to evaluate hemogramparameters as a marker of inflammation in patients with AP.Material and Methods: The files of patients who were exclusively breastfed and diagnosedas food protein induced AP were examined retrospectively. A hundred and fifty patientsdiagnosed with AP were included in the study. The same number of healthy babies formed thecontrol group. Parameters in complete blood count were compared between patient and controlgroups. Rectosigmoidoscopic examination was performed to confirm the diagnosis in patientswho could not achieve complete improvement with diet therapy, and hemogram parameterswere evaluated according to eosinophilic infiltration in biopsies. Results: The mean platelet volume (MPV) values (p<0.001) and eosinophil percentages(p=0.001) of the AP group were higher than the control group. The mean hemoglobin valuesof the AP group were statistically significantly lower than the control group (p<0.001). Nostatistically significant difference was found between patient and control groups in terms ofwhite blood cell (WBC) count, platelet count, platelet distribution width (PDW) andneutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR). WBC count, platelet count, hemoglobin, MPV andC-reactive protein (CRP) values were similar between groups of patients according to thenumber of eosinophils in colon biopsies. Conclusion: We observed a significantly higher MPV values and eosinophil percentages inpatients with AP. These parameters maybe helpful in diagnosis of AP.
